Eto'o Hails Messi And Reveals Barça Desire
Samuel Eto'o has stated that he is ready to sign for another five years with FC Barcelona and admitted that he is no longer among the best players in the world.
The Cameroonian striker revealed his determination to return from injury to be the player that he was two years ago and hailed Lionel Messi as the number one player in the game now. After recovering from a knee injury that saw him miss most of last season, Eto'o suffered a torn muscle in his leg in August and is battling back to fitness. "I would sign for another five years, but first I have to return to being the player I was," he told Canal Català. "I am not among the top five at the moment and that was why it was not important that Ronnie did not put me in his top five. "Now the number one is Messi, the second is Iniesta, who has had two great year and is currently in great form, then Ronnie, (Thierry) Henry and Víctor Valdés are next. "Leo is already the best in the world, I have said that before. He will just keep on improving too. He also understands his defensive duties and often comes back to win the ball. "I would love to be able to do everything that he can do." Eto'o then added that there is a Barça youth team product that he believes will become a great player as he is one of the best prospects he has ever seen. "Then there is another player who is there that can be sent on from the bench and that is Bojan (Krkic). He is the most complete player for his age that I have known," he explained. Reflecting on his own injury, Eto'o said that he is prepared to be patient after returning too early from his knee problem last term and admitted that if he has to start on the bench then he will accept that. "I have to take things slowly and there is no rush because we have a big squad. I really want to play again, but I have to think because I still have a long career ahead of me," he said. "It does not bother me at all to be on the bench. It may bother me only because I always want to play, but I also understand the coach and I will respect any decision he takes." Eto'o then moved to defend Ronaldinho, who he believes is being put under extreme pressure, and explained that despite their public spat last season the pair are close. "Ronaldinho is my friend, although people do not want to believe that," he stated. "I think he should ignore the press, but we are all human and it is going to have an affect. "They should just leave him in peace." Finally, Eto'o revealed his confidence about the game against Atlético de Madrid on Sunday, where he will take his regular place in the stands. "We will win 3-0 with goals from Messi, Ronaldinho and Henry," he added.
