Would Bill Walton, Kareem Abdul-Jabaar or Olajuwon be good replacements?
I remember Olajuwon saying he wouldn't want to coach, Bill Walton?? no thanks.. Kareem has never been given an NBA coaching opportunity because of his past "bad behaviour".. I'm thinking more along the lines of Moses Malone.
If true, then good riddance. Ever since G-Town pulled that shirt grabbing scheme against Nova, i havent liked them, and consequently i do not like Ewing. How can u not like Kareem as a candidate. He had the same body type as Yao, and could help him on his moves and quickness in the post. They outlawed the dunk because of him i mean comon.
I would love to have Kareem Abdul-Jabaar. If Yao were to master the Sky Hook, he would be unstoppable
Ewing will probably stay in Houston. It depends on how Herb Williams will perform during the last few games of the season. With a lot of good coaches to choose from like P.Jackson, Saunders,Silas and another possibility in Larry Brown who expressed his interest in coaching the Knicks which caused the Pistons to worry, Herb Williams will have a hard time retaining his position. BTW I didn't know that Ewing's height is only 6"9. I read an article in si.com wherein Yao treats Mutombo and Ewing to his new restaurant. Ewing insist that he's only 6"9 while a lot of people thought he was 7 feet tall. Anyway back to the topic. If Ewing decides to go to the Knicks, Kareem would be an ideal choice to train Yao. Before the season has began Kareem was interviewed and has expressed his interest in coaching Yao. Though he was willing, he said that there was no offer for him from the Rockets organization. I agree with you Julio-R. Kareem would help Yao master the Sky Hook. If Yao does learn the trick he would be hard to stop.

Olajuwon certainly wouldn't be interested, and I haven't heard anything about Bill Walton wanting to coach. Van Gundy doesn't strike me as the type of person who'd hire an assistant just because he's a center. He'll hire people who understand his system and who he's comfortable with. Probably a New York guy. I wouldn't be surprised to see Don Chaney join his staff, as he has Houston ties and is also a former Knick coach.

Now that he's on the verge of leaving the team, wouldn't it be sensible to get someone else to replace Ewing and continue to coach Yao? Maybe you're right, but I just think that it is reasonable to get a similar guy to join the staff after Ewing leaves.
