<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">LAWRENCE, Kan. -- New Mexico basketball player J.R. Giddens was charged with misdemeanor battery and disorderly conduct Tuesday, stemming from a fight outside a bar in May during which he was stabbed in the leg.

Another man, Jeremiah Creswell, was charged with misdemeanor battery.

Giddens, who needed 30 stitches for the knife wound to his right calf, was playing for Kansas at the time of the fight. He has since transferred to New Mexico. He had a disappointing sophomore season with the Jayhawks, averaging 10 points a game.

In a statement released by the New Mexico, Giddens said he had learned from the experience.

"Now, I want to move on with a new and exciting situation I have at the University of New Mexico," Giddens said.

Here we go again with the college players. Giddens will be a great player for New Mexico though, I hope this doesn't shadow it.

I wouldn't say "Here we go again with the college players" because this happened before the Williams, Price, and Brumbaugh incidents did. It's still disappointing to see Giddens' career go in this direction. The class of '03 is really letting me down. Shannon Brown, Brian Butch, David Padgett, Mustafa Shakur, Olu Famutimi, Martin Iti, and J.R. Giddens were all players I thought would either be starring on an NBA team right now or returning to the NCAA as All-Americans. That 2003 dunk contest with LeBron James, Shannon Brown, and J.R. Giddens was amazing. I thought "Damn, two of those athletic freaks are actually passing up the NBA to play college ball? That's great!" It just goes to show you how unpredictable it all is.

Give it time. Giddens is bound to make a hell of an impact in New Mexico next season and lead them to the tournament. And you saw flashes of what Shannon Brown can do last year in the NCAA tournament. Giddens, Brown, Butch, and Shakur are all due for breakout seasons soon, so don't say they let you down just yet.

I hope he will be able to play for the Lobos, so I can see him play live, NM is going to a Cinderella team in like 2 years.
