A federal judge sentenced the highest-ranking University of Kansas official caught in a ticket-scalping conspiracy to nearly five years in prison Thursday, ending an embarrassing case that cost the university at least $2 million. Ben Kirtland, the former associate athletic director in charge of development, was sentenced to 57 months in prison and ordered to pay more than $1.29 million in restitution to victims in the case, including the university. U.S District Judge Wesley Brown also imposed a $2 million forfeiture judgment owed to the federal government. Kirtland, 54, of Lenexa, is the last of seven defendants sentenced in the scheme. Prosecutor Richard Hathaway said investigators have followed all credible leads and charged and convicted everyone believed to be involved.
