<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Grizzlies continued to fill out their training camp roster Wednesday by adding free-agent guard Kennedy Winston to the roster. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not released. Winston, though, likely will participate with a non-guaranteed contract as the Griz have an abundance of veteran swingmen. Winston (6-6, 230) impressed team president Jerry West while playing for the Grizzlies 2005 Summer Pro League team. The former Alabama standout averaged 6.6 points and 2.1 rebounds in seven games. He averaged 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 82 college games. An early entry candidate in the 2005 Draft, Winston led the SEC in scoring (17.9 ppg) as a junior and was named to the All-SEC first team as a sophomore and junior. Winston worked out for the Grizzlies twice before the draft. "I feel like I have a really good chance of making a team," Winston said after his first workout. Griz coach Mike Fratello called Winston an intelligent offensive player. </div> Source
Winston was good in the NCAA if I'm thinking of the right guy, so I think he can be a capable 2/3 string player.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Buckets:</div><div class="quote_post">Winston was good in the NCAA if I'm thinking of the right guy, so I think he can be a capable 2/3 string player.</div> You're right. He averaged 17.8 points per game for Alabama (#2 in the SEC behind Roberson). He's a great shooter, and he's very athletic. He's kind of like a poorman's Tracy McGrady. He was supposed to be a late first round pick to a high second round pick, but something happened (I wish I knew what exactly) and he fell out of the draft completely. He doesn't play any defense, and he's weak as hell, but I still think he's too talented to have not been drafted. I think the Grizzlies will probably send him and Anthony Roberson down to the NBDL though, so it doesn't really make much of a difference.
Winston was one of my favourite players, and I'm glad Memphis signed him. He's a great scorer, but as VC mentioned, his defense need some work.
