I know many of you are tired of me stating cap facts, but the cap is such an important factor in the NBA. Many of you take it for granted, and assume trades/signings should be done with little consideration to the money aspect of things. The NBA is a business first and foremost. This is real money; real companies, real business aspects.

Many people here chastise Donald Sterling for being a bad owner. He isn't. As an owner, he makes around $20 million a year. A big part of that is bec. he doesn't pay his players. But from the complete business standpoint, he is a good owner. And the NBA is about making money. Of course, there are always some fanatics, such as Cuban, Allen, etc who make it all about winning, at every cost. But the majority of the owners are making money first, winning second.

Toronto signed 6 players for minimum salaries, which collectively, totals to be about $3 million. Guess what Toronto's cap situation is at right now? $58 million. Guess what the luxury tax threshold is rumored to be at? $58 million.

Toronto couldn't afford to go after a MLE type of player, bec. that would have pushed their team salary over $60 million. And thats a no-no from a business perspective. If teams stay below the luxury tax threshold, the NBA cuts you a nice check. I believe NCBullsFan reported it to be around $10 million.

Is it worth losing $10 million, plus the extra $4 million(2 in salaries, 2 for the luxury tax) to sign Stephen Jackson? Nope. That would be $14 million lost for Jackson. Not worth it.

Thats why Toronto has been signing these minimum FA's.

    Its about the money.

Should anyone want to know why the Deke trade is a good idea for Toronto, I will post it........

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Should anyone want to know why the Deke trade is a good idea for Toronto, I will post it........</div>Because Deke has 2 years left on his contract instead of 3 for AD. I think Moiso, Palacio, Montross?, maybe Peterson and maybe Bradey, Bateer and maybe more players expire in two seasons.

I am actually interested in why you think trading for Deke would be good for the Raptors. Now I want to be clear. I'm interested in how this trade would be good for the team not MLSE. Do you think that the trade could make them a better team or just a richer one? If it's good for them both then great!
