That's the clearest signal yet that the Packers will deal Favre to resolve the current stalemate between the veteran quarterback, who wants to come out of retirement and play somewhere else, and Green Bay, which has committed to Aaron Rodgers as its quarterback of the future but wants to keep Favre away from its NFC North rivals -- especially the Minnesota Vikings. The Packers made phone calls Tuesday to several teams after being encouraged by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to resolve the controversy surrounding Favre before their training camp begins Sunday, according to league and players union sources. Goodell has been briefed by Packers general manager Ted Thompson on the status of the team's approach with Favre. Goodell has encouraged the Packers to accelerate that process by surveying teams around the league to determine if there is a trade partner, sources said. Goodell also has spoken with Favre, the sources said, telling the veteran passer that he was willing to assist in the process, if necessary. Several teams in the AFC and NFC confirmed they have been contacted by the Packers. Favre, who retired in early March, has asked to be released from his contract, a request the Packers have no plans to grant. He has yet to request his reinstatement as an active player from the NFL. Favre's contractual rights belong to the Packers until his current deal expires after the 2010 season. On Thursday, at the Packers' annual shareholders meeting, team president and CEO Mark Murphy hinted at the possibility of Favre playing for another team by conjuring the image of Joe Montana in a Kansas City Chiefs uniform. "We want to have positive feelings about Brett and the Packers, and we want him to continue to be a part of the Packer family," Murphy said. "I think the way this is handled will be important in terms of how that plays out in the future. But I'm also cognizant of some of the things that have happened in the past with Joe Montana ending his career with the Chiefs, now you look back on it, most people might not remember that he played with the Chiefs. They remember he was a 49er." ESPN reporter Sal Paolantonio covers the NFL. ESPN's Chris Mortensen and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

The hype of Farve + they overhype of New York teams + the hype of Brady vs. Farve two times a year... Sportscenter would become even more painful to watch.
Holy crap. The Packers are asking for a 1st round pick in exchange for Favre! They will never get him traded. The burning question is that if Favre is worth a 1st rounder, the why the hell is Green Bay not going to start the guy?!?! Let me get out my math book again. Proven talent + worth a 1st round pick in trade = starting quarterback. Brett is reporting on Sunday....as soon as he files the papers with the league. Why hasn't Brett filed his papers yet? Camp is two days away.
The Jets make sense, a second round pick makes sense. The Jets' new stadium means they have to send their season ticket holders a huge bill for PSLs for seats they already pay for every year. This might help with that.

I think the likely hood they get a 1st is slim to none but you could see something like a 2nd and a 6th. That's what Washington got for Jason Taylor who will play one and maybe two more years. Parcells was asking for a 1st rounder. People thought he was crazy but he still got a good offer. Favre is clearly worth as much as Taylor coming off of last season so that's certainly something I think teams will look at. As far as why don't they want him? The Packers believe in Aaron Rodgers. He was the talk of camp last year and he was the talk of the off season this year. They've been right more than wrong when it comes to player evaluations. They see Brett Favre as a good QB who can lead them for the next 2 years but they also see Aaron Rodgers as a good QB who can lead them for the next 10 years. You obviously take the guy for 10 years. I'm not saying that's what I think. I'm saying that's what I think the Packers think. Personally I would take Favre back because a Super Bowl window closes fast but on the flip side I like what Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy have done. I also think Rodgers can be a good QB. I guess we'll see.
