<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Brett Favre appears to have blinked in his dispute with the Green Bay Packers.

Favre told Green Bay general manager Ted Thompson during a phone conversation on Thursday that he intends to return to the team and report to training camp this weekend, according to a report on NFL.com's web site.

NFL.com reported that Favre is expected to fax a letter to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell as early as Friday seeking reinstatement.

The Packers open their camp on Saturday.

Favre, who retired in April, had asked to be released by the Packers - a request that was denied - so that he would be able to sign with another team. Green Bay reportedly had begun exploring trade options. Several teams in the AFC and NFC confirmed they have been contacted by the Packers.

If Favre does return to Green Bay, he could be in the once unimaginable position of being a backup quarterback. When he announced his retirement, the Packers made a commitment to Aaron Rodgers, naming him their starter. Favre likely would have to beat out Rodgers to win back the starting job.

Even if he is relegated to holding a clipboard on the sideline, the 38-year-old Favre would have a base salary of $12 million in 2008. He is under contract to the Packers through the 2010 season.

Coming off a season in which he led the Packers to the NFC championship, Favre probably could still be productive. Last year, he was named to the Pro Bowl roster after passing for 4,155 yards and 28 touchdowns.

Favre also extended his NFL-record streak of consecutive starts to 275, a mark that would end if the Packers follow through on their promise to make Rodgers the starter.</div>

This is going to be interesting....

That article made it sound like the starting QB spot will be open and both will have to fight for it. Is that really true, because every other move the Packers have made has indictated that they're committed to Rodgers as their starter.

If Favre is going to Pack camp, he is going to end up the starter in week 1.

If he is reinstated and reports to camp, the Packers become responsible for his entire salary - even if he gets injured and never plays. My guess is that he'll be a Jet, Redskin or Buc before the end of next week.

Perhaps, but I think the Pack is bluffing their asses off to Favre. They would rather he retired a Packer, but would end up starting him if he stood firm in this standoff. Also, they need suitable compensation for Brett to make the deal work for them. I guess I am just optimistic for Brett to remain in GB.

That's really not a huge factor for the Packers. Without Favre they're #1 in salary cap room I believe. If not #1 then among the best.

With him they're still up there so they can easily afford him for this season.

With that said I think he'll be a Buccaneer or Jet soon enough. It's something that I think both of those teams are thinking about and something the Packers want to get done soon.

The Packers and Jets have done business the last two years. It was during the draft but none the less it shows the teams can at least reach an agreement. I recall the Packers moving down and the Jets moving up for Dustin Keller this year and then in 07, New York moved up for David Harris where as Green Bay moved down to the end of round 2 for Brandon Jackson.

If for whatever reason the Packers hold onto Favre this year and he does report. It will be McCarthy's call on who starts and I think he'll give it too Favre then because clearly Favre would outperform Rodgers or at least you would think

As of 10:23 pm PST, Favre has still not turned in his reinstatement papers. Camp is tomorrow morning.

I'm going out on a limb and saying Favre will be a Jet by Monday night.

Most reports are that the Jets have no interest and there's no chance he's going there, but I still see no movement from the Skins and those are the teams that make sense.
Thompson has to trade him ASAP, so he probably won't get more than a 2nd for him.

Well if he's holding off the reinstatement papers, I could definitely see a trade in the works.

Brett Favre has signed his reinstatement papers, but may not send it to the NFL until Monday or Tuesday.

Consider the Green Bay Packers backed up against their own goal line.

Brett Favre followed through on his statements that he wanted to come out of retirement by faxing his reinstatement letter to the NFL on Tuesday.

Favre sent the letter to the league office late Tuesday afternoon and also spoke by phone with commissioner Roger Goodell, who indicated he will not act on Tuesday in hopes the Packers and Favre can reach a resolution during the next 24 hours, the sources said.</div>

Wow, the Packers are having a guy fly on their private jet, all the way to Louisiana, to convince Favre not to show up to their training camp. They really can't get rid of him! Who is going to blink?
I think it would be hilarious if Brett grabbed a flight and flew straight to Green Bay, at the same time they are flying south to meet him.
