There's a part of me that understands Walker's position, but I agree with Favre and the Packers that a contract is a contract. You signed it. You honor it.

I also agree with Favre that he'd be much better off going to Ted Thompson directly to negotiate an extention, rather than making it a big public hoopla. Behind closed doors, they could re-work his contract (like they did with Al Harris last year). Once it goes public, if the Packers give in, EVERYONE on the team will want a new deal.

Walker is underpaid (and does deserve a raise), but this is not the way to get your money. To me, when a player does shit like this, it leaves the team between a rock and a hard place. If you give in and give the player the money, you set a precident. If you dont, integral member of your team is unhappy.

If anyone knows about working out "deals" behind closed doors in smoke filled rooms, then it is Farve (sacky-sacky)

If my comments are annoying packers fans, it is because they ring true.

Honoring your contract is a double edged sword. If the team was not happy with his production they would just cut him and he would not get his contract. So how is it a player should have to honor a contract that the team doesnt? It is not a gauranteed contract, and that is for both sides.

The thing is...You don't(or shoulden't) get a new contract by wining and sitting out like a little B@#$%, you show it on the field, he had exactly ONE good season and two somewhat dissapointing ones for a 1st round selection He needs to go out their this season and prove he is consistant and then maybe we can deal.

He may never get another chance at a signing bonus, he may go on field 1st game break his neck and never walk again. He then gets nothing for the rest of the contract you think he should "honor" He has to strike while the iron is hot, and his value is at its highest point right now.

Not in Drew Rosenhaus's eyes. If one of his clients has one good year he wants them to hold out until that player gets a better contract. Packer fans remember what happened to Mike McKenzie when heldout. It could happen again. I bet you can guess who his agent is. Which brings up a good question who more to blame for this whole mess Javon Walker or Drew Rosenhaus?

Im not a big Rosenhaus fan, not at all, I think he put it in Javons head to do this but Javon is a big boy who makes his own decisions, I just hope this one can work out peacefully. If it cannot One Trade scenario Id kind of like to see is a possible trade for Jason Taylor(Which is actually rumored to happen) or a straight up Wide out Swap, Walker for Chris Chambers, He's a former cold weather boy who I think could excell up here.

Maybe the packers are to blame. If they stepped up and said we want to commit to you Javon we want to extend your contract, this doesnt happen. That is how the eagles have kept thier young talent, they are proactive about keeping young talent

I dont know, he steadily got better. Best part is he will be FA soon if you dont give him new deal, and he will leave GB over bad feelings

In the end, it is all a business. These players, at the behest of Rosenhaus, are making a business decision. You can't blame them for getting what they can when they can. I promise you there is no loyalty in football on either side of the contract. If a team can get the same production from a rookie that it can get from a veteran, the team will go with the rookie (assuming all things equal in production).

The thing these players need to remember is that this is a business decision. Business people need to look long-term and realize that burning bridges like this is dangerous. They should only use such tactics if they have reasonable assurance that it won't effect them negatively in the end.

The contract he originally signed included a $3 million dollar signing bonus...more money than I'll likely make in my life. I just don't buy the "I'm underpaid" argument. He got a GREAT contract coming out of college without playing a single NFL game. He could have blown a knee in the first game and the Packers would be out all that money. It goes both ways...

Here's the contract he signed, by the way:

    1. WR Javon Walker (Florida State/No. 20 overall): Signing bonus: $3,000,000. Base salaries: $545,000 (2002); $681,250 (2003); $817,500 (2004); $953,750 (2005); $650,000 (2006); and $785,000 (2007). Notes: Team must exercise $1,300,000 option next spring and, by doing so the 2006-2007 seasons are added, and base salaries are reduced to $300,000 (2003); $390,000 (2004); and $515,000 (2005). The 2007 season is voidable. Total: six years, $7,485,000 or five years, $6,700,000. Cap value: $1,045,000.
