FC Vaduz, the small Liechtensteiner club in the heart of the country, will be heading up to the Swiss "Axpo" Super League next season. After edging out rivals AC Bellinzona for the top prize by a single point in the Challenge League, Vaduz are set to continue their march towards even more success. Here's a quick glimpse of their history .. 35 time Liechtenstein Football Cup champions 9 appearances at the UEFA Cup (best result - second qualifying round) 4 appearances at the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup (best result - first round) Considering the small stature of the country and the club itself, these results are really amazing. Unlike San Marino, Andorra and other minor countries in UEFA that are almost non-existent when it comes to club (even International) football, FC Vaduz has shown that a country the size of Manhattan can come up with some great success. Some top tier teams in UEFA Cup qualification they have defeated in the past .. FC Dacia Chişinău FK Jelgava Longford Town FC Újpest FC Come next season, don't write this team off. Not only do they have excellent teamwork and some good players, but the most notable part being their manager Heinz Hermann. Heinz is Switzerland's most capped and successful International player of all-time. For more information, check out their website, which is available in English. FC Vaduz Official Site
Honestly, they don't have one as they play extremely well as a unit made up of good players. However, if I had to choose some stand oust, they would have to be Gaspar (Brazil), Marco Ritzberger (Liechtenstein) and Florian Sturm (Austria).
Glad they made it. We've followed their progress this past season and its great to see them make it. GO VADUZ!!!
