linkIs Drew Rosenhaus desperate? It's known the agent and his beleaguered client, wideout Terrell Owens, met with Broncos coach Mike Shanahan four weeks ago. Having heard little, if anything, from the team since then, Rosenhaus walked up to Broncos GM Ted Sundquist in the lobby of the team's hotel over the weekend and delivered another impromptu T.O. spiel. -- Denver PostRumors began flying that the Jets are candidates to trade up with the Texans and land the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft, which they would use on quarterbacks Matt Leinart or Jay Cutler. -- New York Postlatest buzz about Texas quarterback Vince Young at the NFL Scouting Combine: his score on the 50-question Wonderlic Test. It was reported to NFL general managers Saturday that Young correctly answered just six of the 50 questions on the 12-minute exam designed to test logic and cognitive ability. Then came reports Sunday that Young was allowed to retake the test and that he scored a more respectable 16. -- Austin American-StatesmanIn 1999, Donovan McNabb scored 12 on the Wonderlic Test. Akili Smith scored 15, Daunte Culpepper scored both a 15 and a 21. The year before, Charlie Batch had a 12 and a 15 and Aaron Brooks scored 17. -- Milwaukee Journal SentinelAccording to Young's agent, Major Adams, the National Scouting Combine declared Young's first Wonderlic Test to be false. "The combine officials assured us that score (6) was false and that the accurate score will be known when the combine results are given to each team," Adams said. -- Houston ChronicleThe Jets are logical trade partners for the No. 1 pick because disgruntled defensive end John Abraham would have great appeal to the Texans, who are desperate for a pass rush. In addition, the Texans have a crying need to protect their recently re-signed QB, David Carr, and can grab blue-chip left tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson at No. 4 should they swap picks with the Jets. -- New York PostThe Jets were leaning toward signing a new deal with Chad Pennington, rather than cutting him, said a person familiar with the negotiations. -- New York TimesOf all the things Ted Thompson has to worry about, Javon Walker's unhappiness with his contract apparently ranks pretty far down the Packers GM's list. Earlier in the week-long NFL scouting combine, Walker's new agent, Kennard McGuire, called Walker's $650,000 base salary for 2006 a "disservice" to his client, and an NFL source said Walker approached the Packers a few weeks ago to tell them he'd want to be traded if his contract isn't upgraded. -- Wisconsin State JournalIf the Redskins are able to rework enough contracts and cut enough players to get under the projected salary cap of $95 million by Thursday and then free up some more cash to sign a new player, Pittsburgh receiver Antwaan Randle El could be on their radar. -- Washington TimesMaybe it's just some pre-free agency posturing, but it sounds like one team rumored to be very interested in signing Seahawks running back Shaun Alexander -- the Arizona Cardinals -- are not so big on the idea. -- Seattle TimesVikings owner Zygi Wilf said he plans to pay Daunte Culpepper a $6 million roster bonus on March 17 and tried to defuse growing speculation that the organization is going to sever ties with the quarterback. While Wilf tried to downplay potential trade discussions, he did not rule them out. -- Minneapolis Star TribuneFlorida wide receiver Chad Jackson might have vaulted himself up the draft boards of many NFL teams when he ran a pair of 40-yard dashes in under 4.4 seconds Sunday at the league's annual scouting combine. Jackson ran a 4.32 and a 4.38 in his two attempts. The 4.32 ranked as the fastest over the first two days of timing at the combine. -- Miami HeraldBrad Smith was one of the swiftest quarterbacks Sunday at the NFL scouting combine. But according to one AFC personnel executive, his throw left something to be desired. Smith was clocked at 4.46 seconds in the 40-yard dash on the RCA Dome surface. Smith wants to sink or swim in the NFL as a quarterback, although he said he would be willing to help out at wide receiver once he gets in the league. -- St. Louis Post-DispatchAccording to NFL personnel at the combine, Cutler has solidified his position as one of the top three quarterbacks, and could move ahead of Vince Young, or perhaps even Leinart. The top three quarterback prospects are so different in their abilities, teams must carefully evaluate which one best suits their system. -- New York TimesJerry Jones is passionate about his quest to make the Cowboys winners again ... and as soon as possible. That was at the root of his decision to give coach Bill Parcells a new contract and a raise in January. While Parcells said he never really considered walking away after last season's disappointing 9-7 campaign, Jones said it was imperative that he do whatever it took to keep Parcells in the fold. -- Fort Worth Star-Telegram
