http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/06/11/south-carolina-launches-investigation-greenes-candidacy/ Quotes: "On Thursday, House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn, D-S.C., called on federal authorities to launch a probe into how Greene, an unemployed military veteran, entered and won the state's Democratic primary for U.S. Senate without party support and little campaigning." "Clyburn has suggested Greene is a Republican plant. On Thursday, he said he was skeptical Greene paid the fee himself and demanded that federal authorities investigate where the money came from. Clyburn notes that state law makes it illegal for candidates to let someone else pay their filing fee if their candidacy is intended to damage another candidate." "Party officials asked Greene to sit out of the race after reports surfaced that he faces a felony charge, which stems from a University of South Carolina student's complaint that he showed her a pornographic website, then talked about going to her room at a university dorm." Good stuff. However, maybe, just maybe, the reason he won is that people are friggin' fed up with the current political leaders and will elect anyone just to throw the bums out.
Problem with that is, none of the other candidates in that primary were the incumbent. The seat is held by Jim DeMint, a Republican. barfo
Apparently the guy had little to no radio or tv ads done either. Usually that might garner a small % of votes, but not a majority of votes. It does sound suspect.
The Feds aren't starting an investigation. Clyburn is calling for one, but that doesn't mean it is happening or will. South Carolina is known as the national cesspool of Republican politics. There's a day-earlier thread on this called "Is this guy a set up?" that could be merged with this.
I don't know, he looks legit to me. Here's an interview--skip to around 2:45 or so. What he lacked in funding, support, popularity and experience, he makes up for with personal dynamism. He just has "it." Hence, he has the decisive wins.
Seriously, though, he doesn't look like a "plant" to me. I think a Republican plant would look less moronic at this stage. However, it's not hard to imagine that if it was a rigged race, they'd rig it so an utterly incompetent, but honest-to-goodness Democratic incompetent, tool like him would win it.
forget for a second Mr. Greene running for Congress....I'm a little surprised (though I shouldn't be) that as a voter he doesn't know what TARP is
Yeah, it could be rigged. ACORN has been involved of rigging elections for some time and the dem gov of WA was elected on the votes of dead people and others that mysteriously turned up after the election. So it does happen.
