Sonics waived Felix today at his request to allow him to take a fully guaranteed contract with Maccabi Tel Aviv. He is a new dad and wants the stability since the team can't tell him how many players it will keep until the sale goes through and the 13th player will be a 3rd point guard.
One down, five more to go. My guess: Next cut will be Kenny Adeleke since there is no need for him on the roster, followed by Desmon Farmer who really isn't an NBA player. The final cuts will be Denham Brown and Mike Wilks. If Bennett lets the team carry 14 they will keep Kareem Rush and Milt Palacio if not than they will cut Rush since he hasn't practiced at all. Rush has the most experience out of the remaining shooting guards and I think that will ultimately push him over Brown and Farmer. I'm surprised that we gave Felix that much of a look to begin with. He may have been a solid defender but he seemed to be a bit of a liability offensively and didn't really have a position. He was too small to be a power forward and he was not skilled enough to man the three exclusively. He was a top flight defender but I think that he will struggle in Europe if he is asked to play the role of a primary scorer for one of Euroleague's top teams in Maccabi Tel Aviv. He only averaged 6 points a game at Fresno. Athleticsm always reigns supreme in the NBA. That is why Wilcox was signed to a mega deal and Nick Collison is fighting for reserve minutes -- and for a job somewhere next season. Doesn't seem right but that is the nature of the beast.
I liked Felix and thought he could've become a bigger Damien Wilkins at some point, but it's not like we need him.
Farmer got rave reviews yesterday from Hill in the media session. I looked at Felix as Reggie Evans with a shooting touch. He rebounded with the same fire...but he could actually score from closer than 4 feet.
