When I think of Pro Bowl - type players that completely let me down this season, I think of Peerless Price, David Boston, and Rich Gannon. The table was set for these guys to have another solid season and they blew it. I stayed on their sinking ship most of the season too, always telling myself that Boston would have great games, and that his best was yet to come. Then I got fed up with him never getting any points and benched him. He has a huge day during the week I benched him. Peerless Price was consistantly low on points all year (1200 yrds in 2002! :x ). Gannon's flop was probably the most severe as my drafting QB at #1 compounded the problem.
Drafting a QB at #1 as far as I'm concerned is a big NO-NO. you can get a solid QB as late as the 8th round in most leagues. I got McNair in the 6th. I would have to put Ricky Williams in the bust category Fantasy wise. He was a top three back going into the season and he put up second round numbers.
I couldn't agree more Pats. In most of my drafts it was RB, RB, WR, WR, or some combo of that. Drafting a Quarterback too early can be the end of you because only 1 or 2 deserve a first or second round pick every year. McNair, B. Johnson, J. Kitna, and M. Hasselbeck all fell past the 5th round in most leagues. Bargains I tell you, bargains!
I targeted Hasslebeck from the start and got him in the 9th round(I think it was the 9th), he went on to start 14 times for me and won a lot...I bet he doesnt stay on the board that long next year....I agree that QBs are not worth 1st round value....I think if you can get 2 Good RBs in the 1st 2 rounds, thats what you should do, but WRs are good in the 1st 2 rounds as well
Now that we see everyone has the same strategy..... RB by committee is getting so popular that it makes it imperative to grab the one-featured back as soon as you can. That said, I went into the draft with a short list of 5 or so RBs as must have. I had to pick the last on the list ... Marshall Faulk. Faulk gave me great points when he played....but missing a good portion of the first half of the season put me in a hole -- along with injuries to my top WR Jerry Porter and second RB Charlie Garner. Sigh.
Ya I couldn't have had a better Money league draft. Jamal Lewis (2nd rd) Holt (4th) McNair (6th) Boldin(12th) Hasselbeck (9th). I had the 4th overall and got clinton Portis. Also Ahamn Green went forgotten in my league and I got him in the 3rd. Ya to say the least the league was a short bus league. We will be weeding out the suckers after this season though and getting some more competitive players next year. I'm happy though I was blessed all season and will collect my $800 with a smile. QB McNair (6th RD) WR Tory Holt (4th RD) WR Santan Moss (Traded Pittman and Daniel graham to get him) WR Toomer (5th RD) / Boston ( Hasselbeck/boldin for Boston/Brady) RB Clinton Portis (4th ovr) RB Jamal Lewis (2nd RD) TE Todd Heap (traded Kevin Faulk and Crumpler(11th RD) ) WR/RB Ahman green (3rd RD) K Jeff Wilkins Def Carolina Bench Brady, Boston/Toomer, Mike Anderson, Chestor Taylor, N. Davenport. My biggest mistake was trading boldin. I tried to be ahead of the curve and bounce him before he bounced off the rookie wall but he busted right through the damn thing. Oh well.
All great replies. But back to my original post, who on your teams would you consider to have flopped this season?
MCNABB and RICKY were the biggest bust. no top 100 fantasy player, let alone the best FF qb had a horrible year. hes is winning but ugly early on, now hes playing the best ever and is out of it. thats what killed me early on ricy wasnt a bad bust, its that he isnt the ricky as last year
in my other league i took jamal lewis in with my first pick, i had the last pick in round 1 and 1st in rd 2. they called me dumb becaue green, LT, and davis were still there but my cousin in baltimore told me he was tearing it up at TC so i took him and moss with my first 2 picks. im now in the championship games with that team
McNabb was the biggest bust for me, along with David Boston. Other than that I've had a great fantasy season.
KC, if you were a genious you would have taken Jamal Lewis or LaDainian Tomlinson ahead of Priest Holmes. Of course, I can't take too much credit for drafting LT. If the person ahead of me hadn't taken Ricky Williams, I would have. The biggest draft bust for me was Bubba Franks. He didn't do diddly poop for me. I picked up Boo Williams late in the season and he was an improvement.

I would rather have the 6 points a pop, than the 1 point for every 10 yards.
Oh was that when? Whew, I was starting to think Dale was infallible. Thanks for showing the flaws in the rock we call Dale. I'm sure he appreciates it. Ricky over Priest... go figure!
Koren Robinson was a flat-out bust for me this season. He didn't produce at all. I would have done better if I had just drafted Justin McAreins!?!
Yeah I forgot about robinson. That guy just fell off the face of the earth and Darrell jackson became the main guy. Shit I think bobby engram had more big games than robinson.
You're damn right he did. Hell, Marcus Robinson had more big games than the former first round pick out of North Carolina State.... What a world!??!
