St. Louis Rams will become the 'LA' Rams next season. They will play in the old Coliseum until 2019 when they will play in Inglewood. This move leaves St. Louis without a team ...Oh, for the days of the old St. Louis Cardinals! The NFL, like all sport teams, only follows the money.
I'll tell you Cage I never understood the logic involved. The Colts move out of Baltimore & years later Baltimore has the Ravens. The Rams move out of Los Angels & the city brings in the Raiders. The Cardinals move out of St Louis & then bring in the Rams. Talk about fucking with the fans heads.
MONEY has nothing to do with fans' feelings. The move is "IN THE BEST INTEREST" of______________(anything but the fans)? ALL OF SPORTS only follows the money. SAD, SAD, SAD..................when will fans understand they are never part of the equation!
There is also a chance that the Chargers will move to the LA area! From famine to overload! Nobody can make this crap up.
It's been mind boggling to be a close by Angelino Fan observer. Loved the Raider's Super Bowl Win for LA. but they always have belonged to Oakland. Even before talk of leaving L.A., Most local fans always felt the Raiders were on Loan to L.A. NTM-the Coliseum was a POS for Football, and a promised Irwindale site, was the very worst air quality in the entire southland, per the AQMD, and downright stunk with its orange air, so Al smartly played his no loss hand to both Cities, cya L.A., and hello Oakland....a match made in heaven. The Rams of the late 60s thru the 70s were legendary, but not enough stable offense, tho' their lines were very notable. I really expected a Rams Super bowl win; the Rams led 13-10 the Half, and the Seasoned big game vets got their 4th ring.... When the Original owner of the Colts, Caroll Rosenblum passed, and his wacko wife Georgia Frontierre(sp?) took control, some locals were heart broken, others were ecstatic to see Her take her team elsewhere, and she was despised, loathed, for taking the Team to St. Louis.... What's with L.A. Teams losing legendary owners, to their wives who fk things all up, ie 'the singing cowboy' also...?
Bad Move. The fine people of St Louis ought to give the NFL a full fledged one instant business finger on the opening day of kickoff 2016. LA lost a football because nobody cared and the same will happen again.
God I hope not, watching the USFL San Antonio Team was downright painful, with Neuhesiel(sp?) aka the guy who Aikmann backed up.... some say the entire USFL was painful to watch, not me, I loved every flipping minute of it, only wish I'd of bought a couple boxes of wax pack- USFL players trading cards. Those sets are ridiculous today, and K-Mart had them discounted at 9$ a box, enough usually to build a set, why the fk I didn't is beyond me, the 84 Set is the most "Coveted Set of Football Cards for the 80s no doubt...... http://www.psacard.com/Articles/ArticleView/4673/gone-but-not-forgotten-story-usfl-trading-cards
LA lost football Team(s) not because there were insufficient Fans, but because the City and County Board of Supervisor's kept promising new Stadiums, rather than share a old bowl Stadium in Anaheim, held plenty of peeps, but was too small. Georgia wanted a free ride, a new stadium She wouldn't have to pay for, and we were glad to see the Bitch go, not the Team.... The City of LA also fkd over Al Davis, making promises they could not keep. I for one am glad, I love the Raiders always have, but they belong in Oakland, and only Oakland. Imagine Green Bay moving, or the Giants, perhaps the Cowboys, or Dolphins....????? Those moves would never make sense, neither does moving the Ray-Derz..... The Coliseum is one of the very worst football stadiums, that no NFL Team should have to play in. The Fans are way to far away from the action. No Luxury Box Seats, and most importantly, only a mile north of the epicenter of South Central L.A. The amount of Fans who took a wrong turn out of that bowl, after Raiders games, and wound up in a dark city at daylight, were utterly freaked out. It's like a war zone, down there. NTM- the LAPD, and LASD kept Paddy Wagons available at all Raiders games. not due to the hard core Fans, but due to the Mexican and Black Gang Bangers, pulling knives on each other during the games........it was a sight to see, unbelievable...
>> Matts Thanks. Great Intel! I was a Raiders fan in the 70's along with the St.Louis Cardinals (Neil Lomax, MelGray, Dan Dierdorf, Conrad Dobler, Larry Wilson) I always had a "other" conference default team. My favorite Raiders of all time in no particular order were Guy, Blintikoff (sp), Sistrunk, Otto, Atkinson, Tatum, Stabler, Branch, Casper, Long, Alzado and my all time favorite Phil Villapiano#41 (A Long Branch NJ native). Imagine all the suburbanites and upper crust who have no clue such urban unrest was possible. May I use the people who acquire the 08540 zip code as proof.....
That's a HOF Team in itself, a great list of Legends. I'd add, (and I know you would too), "Big" Ben Donaldson, and of course Howie Long. I loved how Howie threw line men aside, tremendously strong no nonsense player ... Yep, and one could add the Zip Code 20500 as well, at least for the current inhabitants at the Landmark, Museum or Zoo; on Penn's Ave....
...the early Raider teams of the 60's and 70's were a blast to watch...."Freddie" had the best hands of any receiver I've ever seen...don't recall him ever dropping a pass...but unfortunately for him, he also may have been the slowest white boy who ever played the game.
The company that produced stickum should have capitalized his name. He was cool... I wonder what he did after football
...Biletnikoff only began loading up with stickum near the end of his career, probably just the last 2-3 years but it was perfectly legal back then and a lot of players used it...Jerry Rice on the other hand admitted that he used it even after it was illegal...go figure. ...Biletnikoff played both sides of the ball in college at FSU and one year he led the team in both receptions and interceptions...after he retired Freddie was the Raiders WR coach for 15-20 years...and retired from coaching about 10 years ago. ...don't know how many times I saw him tackled from behind on the 1 or 2 yard line...like I said, he was really slow...lol.
If you ain't cheating, you ain't trying. And if you don't get caught, it ain't cheating. Obviously the corollary gave us the PED era, lol!
