In a thread I wrote earlier Michael Finley is likely leaving the dallas mavericks thats been his team for 8 years now but it looks like that one of the teams he can be playing for next year is the bulls, now that would mean he would be a starter and someone like loul deng or ben gordon would be on the bench again which i would'nt mind if finley would start in place for Ben, If finley would give those 16 17 points per game i wouldnt mind and our team would get a big boost, and we would have the sixth man of the year coming of the bench or loul and then we would have nocioni coming third alot- of talent The Bulls then would hope that since [Michael] Finley will be getting paid by Dallas, the Melrose Park native and former Proviso East star would be eager to play for his hometown team for about $2 million. That figures to be what the Bulls will have remaining from their mid-level exception after signing Chris Duhon.
There have been rumors he would come to Chicago, but honestly I doubt he will. This team is just to young for him right now he is looking for a title at this point in his career with offers from the Heat, Suns, and Pistons the chances of us signing him are slim. Also Duhon will eat up most of our MLE. Finley is a Chi-town kid, but that really does not mean or hold much when it comes to money and a shot at winning a title. Or just money period like Michael Redd showed this off-season with Cleveland. I would concentrate on resigning my own free agents before targeting new ones if I were Paxson.
I do not think this will happen and I hope it dosen't because it willl probably mean Gordon coming off the bench another year. This is something I do not want to see lol.
^ We aren't here to facilitate the needs of Ben Gordon. We want to win. I mean, come on. We need another scorer early in games. Eddy can't do everything in the beginning. If you have a chance to bring in one of the better swingmen in the game, do it! Even Ben Gordon compared himself to Bobby Jackson, so why not take him off the bench? Its for the team, not for what Ben Gordon wants. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Finley wanted to come play for Chicago. It's his hometown team. I would absolutely love to have him here. We need a veteran, and bringing in a vet of his calibre would be great. Come to Chicago, Mike!

I want the team to win also. And I know this would make the team better but I would prefer it not to happen lol.
I would like to see finley back in chi town. thats where he's from and he could do a lot of good on that team cuz they are really a young group and having a veteran guy like finley who has been to the playoffs a lot in his career can't hurt.

One possible thing we could do with Finley is bringing him in as a mentor who plays when asked to. Even if he started I would not give him the minutes he received in Dallas; maybe we can have him accept a role like Antonio Mcdysess did with the Pistons. A guy who will step up when needed and at the same time help the team without being ?the man?.

I can see this happening, only if Finley is willing to come off the bench for someone named Gordon, who is the future at the shooting guard spot for the Bulls. Being that Finley is from the Illinois area I can see he might settle for a bench role for the Bulls with less money. No question with he would be a great add here in Chicago to teach Gordon the roots of the two guard spot plus contribute in clutch situations as Gordons running mate.
I would love to see Finley in Chicago and starting over Gordon, Gordon disappeared in the playoffs, but he's great off the bench. I would want to see Gordon start though if Finley does not head over to Chicago, Ben Gordon has experience now and should be a great starter for the Bulls. You can have a lot of lineup combos with Finley on the Bulls squad.

Finley is better than Ben (at this stage), and for one bringing Ben off the bench keeps him fresh for the end of games. Finley would serve as another great option at the beginning of games, so we don't have to rely on Curry for all the scoring. Finley might mean no Duhon, but if we can retain Pargo, that would be fine. And hell, if they both leave, Jay Williams is making his comeback. I'd love to have Finley here, with a lineup like: PG- Hinrich SG- Finley SF- Deng PF- Chandler (or Davis?) C- Curry Not to mention our extraordinarily deep bench, with guys like Gordon, Nocioni, and our group of veterans, we'd still be going for homecourt advantage in the playoffs even with the return of Artest to the Pacers.
I dont think it should be set it stone who should start or not, well not atleast this early...players need to prove themselves before they can get playing time....If Finley proves he is better starting then he should and same for Gordon...He (Finley) can teach this team alot..with all his experiance and he can always take them to school on the practice courts...He is old but not to old, a 3 year deal with a 4 year team option sounds like a good deal to me.... Also, I remember someone bringing up how Mike Redd didnt come back home to Cleveland...This is a total differant situation...If Redd came to Cleveland he wouldnt have been payed by the Bucks... With Finley, he can take less money because he is still getting paid by Dallas, just it wont go against the cap... So if Finley takes like 3 mil per year he still gets the 15 Mil this year, 17 next year and 18 the year after...so he is going to be earning 18 then 20 then 21...How much more can he want?!?
Well looks like now that the Mavericks will not waive him they want expiring contracts for him. Several other teams, and we (the Bulls) have expressed interest in trading for him. For us I am assuming we would probably have to trade Antonio Davis? expiring deal for Finley if we were interested in acquiring him. I do not know if we should try to get him with the current deal he has it is a rather big deal, and we have young players to sign in a few seasons so we will need to save all the money we can.
That what I think too. A lot of our young talent will be up for a new deal within the next 2 years and I'd rather keep them together.
Here is a article that suntimes.com released a few days ago. No one posted it so here it is. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Henry Thomas, the agent for Dallas Mavericks swingman Michael Finley, believes Bulls operations chief John Paxson will be among many NBA executives pursuing Finley if the Mavs -- as expected -- release Finley as part of the amnesty provision in the new collective bargaining agreement. The provision benefits teams over the salary cap because they can release a player, pay his full contract and avoid the penalty of paying a dollar for every dollar they're over the cap. That means Dallas will pay Finley $51 million for the remaining three years of his contract. The Bulls then would hope that since Finley will be getting paid by Dallas, the Melrose Park native and former Proviso East star would be eager to play for his hometown team for about $2 million. That figures to be what the Bulls will have remaining from their mid-level exception after signing Chris Duhon. ''Chicago certainly would be one of the teams he'd consider because it's his home,'' said Thomas, who in past years downplayed annual trade scenarios featuring Finley coming to the Bulls. ''As for him actually ending up playing for the Bulls, anything is possible. ''But his first desire would be to get with a team that would help him win a championship ring. He's never won one, never even played in the Finals. And everybody knows that he can help any team in this league. He's coming along real well in his rehab [after right ankle surgery]. So he hasn't even started thinking about where else he might play because he hasn't been released yet.''</div> <div align="center">Article Date July 26, 2005</div>
help our team please finley bulls get him forget gugliotta and kukoc this guy is a real veteran yeaaa
Ehh, with new developments talking about how he isnt gonna be waived, sort of makes me lose all hope on getting him. 90% of the improvement we're making will have to be player development of what we already have. Oh well. It was a nice dream while it lasted.

According to this article they have an offer from at least one eastern conference team. Which I believe is either the Bulls or Heat. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> The Mavs would prefer to move Finley to the Eastern Conference, and have at least one proposed trade offer that would satisfy Mark Cuban's requirement of receiving players with expiring contracts in return. "It's going to happen or it's not," Nelson said. "We're doing everything in our power to make the best of a tough situation. I don't feel any pressure to make a deal. Maybe I should." So even if Finley survives the amnesty closing date, it doesn't mean he'll be wearing a Mavs uniform when the 2005-06 season opens. As for the deadline, the Mavs could use the clause on another player, such as Tariq Abdul-Wahad or Shawn Bradley. </div> <div align="center">Source</div>
