"The milestone didn't make much of an impact on Curtis Glencross. Asked about his freshly bagged 100th point in the National Hockey League, he seemed surprised. Mildly. He barely raised an eyebrow. "Didn't even know. Kind of cool." No, Glencross's mind had been other benchmarks. Such as the Calgary Flames' first win of the season. Such as the Calgary Flames' first goal of the season. Neither had appeared to be a lock as Sunday's home-opener against the Los Angeles Kings dragged on — zeroes through 30 minutes, more than a smattering of boos. But Glencross changed things the Flames' fortunes in a blink. Having already turned in a dandy outing — rifling slappers at netminder Jonathan Bernier, driving star defender Drew Doughty into the fence — the speedy winger orchestrated the night's turning point at 11:31 of the second period. After Craig Conroy had been sent off for roughing, Brett Sutter defused the travellers' power play and, spying Jack Johnson marooned in no-man's land, chopped a pass into the neutral zone. Glencross took the feed, hotfooted it into Los Angeles territory, and, slashing rightward, backhanded the puck into the net. Which woke up the newly christened barn. Which woke up the Flames (what was left of them — more on that later). "Huge for us," said Glencross, whose squad, from there, steamed to a 3-1 victory in at the Scotiabank Saddledome. "You have to take advantage of your home ice. That's big — a big start for us." Duly noted by the fans, who had heckled their heroes in the early stages."
