Should be interesting if they allow him to stay in the draft, rumor was that Dallas really like him after their recent workout but he'll make the same amount of money as a top 10 pick since in Europe they take care of taxes, housing, and other luxuries while your paycheck go straight to your pocket.

Very interesting. Smart move though IMO. His game seems to be perfect for Europe where smart, tough nosed combo guards seem to dominate. Additionally, hes getting lotto type money PLUS doing this likely makes him a second round pick if a team wants his rights. If he is in fact selected in the second round he bypasses the inflexible contract structure that first round picks are given.

I wonder if this becomes a trend for players outside of the lottery.

It could be interesting but Calathes is Greek and I believe his brother is in Greece too. I remember reading that Greece was trying to recruit both Calathes and Koufos for their international team for building blocks of the future.

Sasha Kaun did it last year. Trent Plaisted also ended up in Europe, dunno what the deal with his rights are for the Pistons. James Gist is also doing well in Italy, dunno whats up with his rights with the Spurs.
