Keon Clark claims he never played a game sober.

We knew he had problems with weed and with maintaining interest in the sport, but by his own admittance, he was a hardcore alcoholic throughout his NBA career, drinking up to a pint of gin every day.

Pretty crazy story, really. His father murdered another man over a dispute over a bicycle a few years back, and is incarcerated because of it IIRC. Clark was highly critical of the Raptors after he wasn't kept around following a productive but troubled career in The Big Smoke. He had a few choice words for Vince Carter after leaving as well.

Keon had a good season with the Kings following a year and a half with the Raps but after that his personal problems really took hold. He only played in two games for the Jazz in 2003/04 before literally walking away from the sport. At one point he was a missing person, according to his agent, who completely lost track of Keon.

Clark has been in trouble with the police repeatedly since dropping out of the NBA, most recently being convicted of drug and weapons related charges and sentenced to two and a half years in prison. "Clark was arrested Oct. 18 after U.S. Marshals got a tip that he was on a bus leaving Houston. He was arrested on several Illinois charges, including not having a firearm owner's identification card and possession of a controlled substance. He had been in Texas at a drug and alcohol rehab clinic, according to court records." [ESPN]

Clark is currently hoping for a new hearing as a judge has claimed Clark lacked proper representation in his last court appearance.

Sad, sad story. He was one of my favourite players back then. Its sad that Grunwald was completely incompetent at managing the cap, because I always wanted to keep him.

It's not that suprising, there are people called functioning alcoholics. He was a pretty decent player, imagine if he stayed sober.
