Billups is a free agent this year, and in my opinion, he would be the IDEAL point guard for the triangle. 1. Very high basketball IQ 2. Great jump shooter (much better than Kidd) 3. Great defense 4. Great passer 5. Would allow someone other than Kobe, to shoot in clutch situations 6. EXCELLENT free throw shooter (*looks at Smush Parker*) Kidd at first was real exciting, but because the Triangle exposes many players' weaknesses, I think his jump shot would get exposed. Same thing happened with Gary Payton, and slowly the same is happening to Jordan Farmar. Those point guards would not excel in the Triangle, but Billups, however, is a free agent this summer and would be the perfect addition. Thoughts?
It would have to be a sign and trade to afford Billups. The Lakers will have Kwame's $9M expiring contract to dangle and not much else. Brian Cook, 1st Rounder, and Jordan Farmar, are the only other players with some value. Another alternative is Lamar Odom, but I don't know if Detroit would take him. You have to figure, if they're willing to pay Odom's salary, they might aswell re-sign Billups. The other possibility is involving a 3rd team, who would want Kwame's expiring K, and has players Detroit would be happy with in exchange for Billups.
I think Billups will re-sign if they make the finals regardless if they win. Billups has expressed interest in Denver so I think if he's willing to go there then LA can definitely make a good push for him
Wow.. with the way we played today and Kobe's hit on Korver, if we make the playoffs (i think we still will), we are probably gona get swept or win like 1.
Billups would be an awesome fit but I wouldn't get your hopes up. Mitch always finds a way to let you guys down.
Billups would be interesting for the Lakers, definitely would solidify the pg position, and let Smush be a backup.
You guys would actually pick Billups over Kidd? Damn, I thought this was the place where Kidd would get his due respect. Now your saying to forget Kidd? I don't believe this. Billups is not half the player Kidd is. Whatever though. Having Parker as you starting point, Billups would certainly be a step up.

Kidd has already struggled in the triangle offense in the past (although he was alot younger).

My guess would be that Kidd would work out very well with the Lakers, as well as Billups. However Billups would probably come at a more reasonable price, and is also younger.
Doh, totally forgot the age difference too, good point. Another reason Chauncey would be a great pickup.

<div class="quote_poster">AMS_ice Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Kidd is a different and a better player than he's Dallas days.</div> Which is why I said "although he was alot younger" in my previous post. Don't get me wrong... I'd take Kidd or Billups, but if I had my choice of the two I'd take Billups simply because of the age factor, and that would leave the Lakers a bigger window of opportunity to win a championship and/or championships.
