After hobbling off in the 29th minute of Atlético Madrid’s superb victory over PSV Eindhoven it is believed that Diego Forlan could now face at least 3-4 weeks on the sidelines.

Javier Aguirre has every right to be a happy man tonight after watching his Atlético Madrid side outplay and outclass PSV Eindhoven in the Philips Stadion but, he says, with Diego Forlan’s injury he cannot be totally satisfied.

“We are not completely happy because of the injury to Forlan. We hope that he is not out for long and that he recovers soon because he is an important player for the team,” explained the manager.

The Uruguayan marksman was left out of the side to face Valladolid at the weekend after returning from international duty late and he is now likely to miss Atlético’s next Champions League clash with Marseille as well as league encounters.

The injury occurred in the 27th minute when Forlan was chasing after a long ball and early indications show that he may have punctured a muscle in his right leg. The news means that Aguirre will more than likely now have to rely on Florent Sinama Pongolle upfront alongside Sergio Agüero for the next month or so.

The injury will be re-assessed on Wednesday when it will be revealed what the full extent of the damage is and the likely lay-off period.
