Former CFL quarterback Cody Ledbetter, who eluded U.S. authorities for months while hiding in Ottawa, was sentenced to 12 years in prison Wednesday in District Court in Fort Worth, Texas. Ledbetter, a former Stephenville High and New Mexico State football star who played several seasons in the Canadian Football League with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Edmonton Eskimos and Winnipeg Blue Bombers, pleaded guilty in 2005 to having an improper relationship with a student at the high school where Ledbetter coached football. He was charged the same year with the same crime in Johnson County, where he was given a 10-year probated sentence. He still faces sentencing there for that crime. Ledbetter was about halfway into the probation period when he admitted in court that he violated terms of the deal by drinking alcohol and missing appointments with his probation officers.
