He planted drugs how many times?

Former Philadelphia police officer Jeffrey Walker was once hailed as one of "Philadelphia's finest"—participating in well-publicized drug raids. That is, until he was busted by the FBI:

Fifteen years later, an FBI case revealed a different Jeffrey Walker, then a member of the Narcotics Field Unit. Busted in a sting in May 2013 - the FBI caught him stealing money from a drug dealer - Walker pleaded guilty and began cooperating with federal investigators.

Walker, who is in federal custody awaiting sentencing for his February 2014 guilty plea in federal court, faces a maximum of life behind bars.

In the meantime, he is expected to be a star witness this week in the federal trial against six Philadelphia narcotics officers arrested with his help: Thomas Liciardello, Perry Betts, John Speiser, Michael Spicer, Linwood Norman - Walker's longtime partner on the narcotics unit - and Brian Reynolds, Walker's old "Robin."

Walker took the stand today and stunned the courtroom with his testimony:

A disgraced ex-police officer testifying against his drug squad colleagues acknowledged Tuesday that he stole drug money, planted evidence and lied on police paperwork too many times to count.

Jeffrey Walker told jurors that the Philadelphia Police Department drug squad targeted white “college-boy, … khaki-pants types” who were “easy to intimidate.”

Walker is trying to avoid a life sentence and a jury must now decide whether he's a credible enough witness to convict the other officers. In the meantime, his confessions have already had a lot of ripples:

So far, a total of 39 federal suits have been filed against Walker and the city. And 165 convictions have been dismissed.

It's becoming clear that only Asians should be cops.

I'd say half the cops out there wouldn't think twice about planting a bag of drugs if it helped them, especially if the victim is a "know it all, wannabe lawyer" type.

More people in prison than the gulag ever had, the most prisoners in the entire world.

    Good times.

We have so many people in prison because Americans are the greatest threat to Americans.

Also 90% of the people in prison are Democrats.

    I blame Obama.

Well, once you go to prison, you can never vote again.

    I'm not sure why.

Not true. You can't vote while in prison but you can vote again once you're off parole. So I'm guessing you just have a few years to go.

That came out wrong, but as people get caught up in the system they are likely perpetually on parole or in prison for minor offenses. They often never vote again.

Planting drugs is easy, but if they don't get lots of water and sunlight you're just wasting your time.:tsktsk:

To be fair about that figure, most other countries kill their criminals rather than imprison them.

Prison life depends on how you approach it.

It's because state legislators don't want any voters who know what's up in the legal system.

Plus, you will be underemployed the rest of your life. When you come out of prison, you are a changed man, an unambitious defeatist because you have to embarrass yourself when applying for a job. That, and employer discrimination, mean that most don't find full-time work, but even if they do, it's way beneath their abilities.

In other news, economists can't figure out the cause of the increasing number of permanently underemployed Americans, which hurts macroeconomic productivity so much. Read business articles. They can't figure out the phenomenon.

Sly dropping "knowledge"...... on a subject he clearly knows a lot about.

Sly, what else can you tell us about prison? It obviously didn't "harden" you, at least not as far as your personality.

Are you a narc? You sound jealous. You're free, too, you know, to drop your own knowledge on us. Educate us with secret numbers.

When and whether convicted people (many tens of millions of Americans) can vote differs by state. This is well-known and well-publicized, not inside information. That ban changes elections.

No narc, you should know. I'd have ratted you out long ago, you would know. I'm über-jelly, yes. Turn a sarcastic, tongue-in-cheek response into a call-out. Sly's alter-ego is jlprk?

And yes, I am a narc. Sly is paying me $0.84 per person I rat out. Made like
    $2.89 for BD.
