Former CFL star running back Carlton Chester (Cookie) Gilchrist died Monday after a battle with cancer. He was 75. Gilchrist spent six years in the CFL and won a Grey Cup with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 1957. He also played for Saskatchewan and Toronto before moving on to the American Football League in 1962. “It is with sadness to hear about the passing of Cookie Gilchrist,” Ticats general manager Bob O’Billovich said in a release. “The football world lost a great former player today. As an organization we send our condolences to his family.” Gilchrist spent three seasons with the Buffalo Bills and was named AFL player of the year in 1962.
