Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion and The Ultimate Fighter season 1 winner Forrest Griffin announced his retirement tonight following the UFC 160 event in Las Vegas. Griffin, 33, has been a mainstay in the UFC since 2005, compiling a record of 10-5 including a title win over Quinton Jackson in 2008 in what was the Fight of the Year. Though Griffin will be most remembered for his heroic performance at the inaugural Ultimate Fighter finale at which he and Stephan Bonnar (also recently retired) fought in what would be a record breaking and monumental bout for the UFC, Griffin's biggest win might've been his shocking upset of former Pride champion Mauricio Rua at UFC 76 in 2007. Griffin has been out of action due to serious knee injuries since last summer but was not expected to retire. He will remain with the UFC in some capacity (similar circumstances have been extended to retired champions Chuck Liddell and Matt Hughes in the last two years).

Griffin and Bonnar will both be inducted into the UFC's Hall of Fame in July at the Fan Expo.

DFW has been leaning on BJ Penn to retire as well. Rich Franklin? Not yet.
