As a football fan, a parent and a referee, i think that the Premier League needs to clamp down on players/managers getting away with foul and abusive language towards officials. These players are watched closely by millions of people week in week out and are seen to be swearing at referee's and other officials at the games. The law's of the game state that foul and abusive language is punishable with a red card, so why isnt it adhered too in the Premier League? In relation to sunday league football, there are numerous people sent off week in week out throughout the country for swearing, be it at the opposition, referee or own team mate. So why are referee's not giving red cards at the top level of the game for this? As a parent, time and again my daughter will see people swearing at a referee and has told me of times at her school where children as young as 6 are copying these footballer's they idolise by swearing. Surely this is not the right way to entertain? Happy to hear people's thoughts on how to irradicate it from the top level...although any ideas may be pie in the sky...
