MINNEAPOLIS -- Los Angeles Lakers forward Rick Fox will miss the rest of the postseason with a torn tendon in his left foot that will require surgery.

An MRI test done Monday before the team departed Los Angeles revealed the damage. There was no estimated timetable for Fox's return.

Fox hasn't decided yet when he'll have the operation, team spokesman John Black said before the Lakers practiced in Minneapolis. He was hurt early in the first quarter of Sunday's 102-97 victory.

Fox averaged eight points in the first three games of the best-of-seven series. The first-round series is tied at two games apiece, with Game 5 at Minnesota on Tuesday night.

Fox's absence likely creates more playing time for Devean George and Brian Shaw.

damn...that means devean and shaw are gonna have to step it up big time.

Shaw needs to continue to step up like he did for us yesterday. And Rush and Fisher need to play some defense!

losing fox is a HUGE loss. he's one of our most battle-tested core players. his efforts will be missed when we play a team such as the kings.

maybe against the kings but thats a diffrent story. The lakers could stand to lose one or two more key players other than shaq and theyed still have this first round series in the bag
