In a surprising result, Francesco Patera (20-3, 7 KOs) defeated the highly popular previously unbeaten Lewis Ritson (17-1, 11 KOs) by a 12 round split decision to win the vacant European Boxing Union (EBU) lightweight title on Saturday night at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle, UK.
