http://www.usatoday.com/sports/basketball/...son-fired_x.htm PHOENIX ? Frank Johnson became the third NBA coach since the beginning of the 2003-04 regular season to get fired when the Phoenix Suns replaced him with assistant coach Mike D'Antoni on Wednesday. The Suns are expected to make the announcement at 4:30 ET another one bites the dust lol
I was expecting this, but it goes against what the owner said about Frank Johnson's job security- just goes to show how the NBA is nothing but a business to the owners.
Sho' is. Man, the guy goes against all expectations one year by making the playoffs, then doesn't meet them the very next and gets canned. Heavy. I feel for him, but he'll get another job probably by next year.
This was bound to happen.Sunsfan mentioned he would finally be gone at the end of their east road trip.
No offense to the magic, but if you go out and blow a 22 point lead against a then 1-19 team, and go and screw it up again the next night, you should be fired. Who's next on the list for Phoenix?

Teams lose leads, it doesn't mean that the coach should be fired.
The Suns lost to a then 1-19 Magic team remember? The 19 game losing streak? You don't blow a big lead to a bad team. It just showed in that second half, a horrible gameplan by Johnson and it led to a total collapse. Good move by Phoenix. I'd run him out of town too.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Drew Gooden:</div><div class="quote_post">So if the lakers blew a 22 point lead against the magic, would phil jackson be fired?</div> Heck no, but check this out....what is Johnson's career record with the Phoenix Suns? They were barely even a playoff team last year.
Frank Johnson was a good coach, you can't deny it. He lost big, sure, but that happens to coaches. Most other coaches get more of a chance than he was at the end, and I think other teams will keep that in mind and look him up soon.

Frank Johnson is a good coach IMO, I think the Suns will struggle at first then adjust to the new coach and make the playoffs. They are a VERY talented team
The thing people fail to realize is that FJ losing his job did not just come about this season. The struggles of the Suns can really be noticed from near the end of last season all the way to the point they are at now. His subsitution patterns suck, he doesn't know how to utilize certain players, he is too addicted to small ball (something Marion has gone on the record as saying he dislikes), and just isn't a good head coach. I've said this a few times, he serves as a way better assistant than a head coach. He just loses his players' focus way too easily and doesn't get as much an effort out of them as is possible. For my thoughts on D'Antoni, go to the Suns forum under the "Amare's official status" thread.
I was at the Heat game last night when they destroyed the Suns 92-72, which also happened to be Frank Johnson's last game as head coach. Three down, one to go. So, how long do you think D'Antoni will be head coach before he is fired .
Many coaches are good coaches, but in this situation it was clear that Frank Johnson was not getting the best out of this Suns team. Next thing to get rid of are those terrible uniforms.
