Carolina Panthers tight end Freddie Jones, who signed with the team in April after playing eight seasons in San Diego and Arizona, announced his NFL retirement Sunday. "It was in the best interest of my family that I conclude my career at this time," said Jones. "I appreciate the Panthers signing me. It?s a top-notch organization and I?m glad I got a chance to experience it before I retired. I?m looking forward to whatever God has planned for me next." The former North Carolina standout had 404 receptions during his career with a career high of 71 for the Chargers in 2000. He spent the first five seasons of his career at San Diego and the last three with Arizona. He initially entered the NFL as second-round draft choice of the Chargers in 1997.
Wow, that sucks. I hope everything is okay. I wonder if he's injured or having family problems or what? I wish him luck, regardless. He's been on my Fantasy team more than once over the years.
He said he left for his family because he had a babu. I think one of the things that factored into it was because the panthers put him on the 3rd team.
freddie jones is a receiving TE...i mean just look at the dudes stats, his talent was wasted in Carolina. Carolina just uses blocking TE...
The panthers just need a TE than can catch and block and that would be perfect for them. Seidman is suppose to be the closest thing to that. Jake Delhomme threw to TEs a lot more than last year he did in 03.
