<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Forward Dominic McGuire plans to forgo his senior season and declare for the 2007 NBA draft after the NCAA Tournament, a decision he and Fresno State coach Steve Cleveland will continue to re-evaluate. McGuire said Monday he will "test the waters" without hiring an agent. That allows him the flexibility to withdraw from the June draft if he fails to earn first-round consideration and its guaranteed contracts. That decision will depend on how he performs at the pre-draft camp in Orlando, Fla., and private workouts with NBA teams, as well as how many other underclassmen enter the draft. "It's not like I'm closing off coming back next year. But at the same time, I have to see what are my options and see what the NBA thinks about me," said McGuire, who transferred to Fresno State from Cal. Underclassmen have until April 29 to declare for the draft. They have until June 18 to withdraw and return to college. McGuire averaged 13.5 points, 9.8 rebounds, 3.5 blocks and 3.2 assists this season, which ended in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament. He became just the second Fresno State player with two career triple-doubles, and also the second to accomplish that in the same season. McGuire said if he won't be considered for the first round, he likely would return to Fresno State. But he stopped short of saying that decision was predetermined. Three of this year's top five draft prospects are freshmen -- Texas forward Kevin Durant, Ohio State center Greg Oden and North Carolina forward Brandan Wright -- and with the exception of Durant, they still are playing in the NCAA Tournament and mum on their pro futures. "Until you really know down the road who's coming out, you don't know the quality of the draft," Cleveland said. "You just hear speculation. All of that will come forward and we'll see where he stacks up." McGuire, 21, met with Cleveland on Sunday when they discussed his possible professional career. Cleveland, who left Fresno on Monday on a recruiting trip, said he will gather information from his NBA contacts to help McGuire make an educated decision. "I'm in complete support for whatever is best for Dom," Cleveland said.</div> Source
