In texas when you purchase a gun legally you get a background check that goes thru the national database the NCIS, i know this is also true in Arizona. Obviously the system has some issues since we keep hearing of people with mental issues purchasing guns. Lets fix the system.
The system is too complex. Simplify it and mark the ID of dangerous people. When they are deemed dangerous you confiscate their ID and mark the replacement with a firearms restriction. Make it a felony to enable these people to access guns in any way. Now, you don't need to do a background check. You just verify the ID of everyone every time you sell, gift, or loan them a firearm. It's a very simple system that we already have everything in place for (every state already prints restrictions on ID and driver's licenses) and requires no networking, power, or special technical skills. This would instantly be more effective, reliable, wide spread, and more often used than any background check currently used in the entire country. And the vast majority of Republicans wouldn't even have a problem with it.
Wow crickets…..mass shooting of innocent children in Kansas City…..doesn’t even register anymore. That’s almost as sad as the actual shooting. Pro gun peeps must be busy mailing there love and prayers to the victims and their families. Oh well on to the next one.
Yes - thoughts and prayers for the victims but don't send us any gun control laws because the NRA gives us too much money to vote for them.
When firearm advocates reference home defense as the justification for gun ownership, I always think about these things. https://byrna.com/collections/byrna-non-lethal-guns Seems like someone could protect their home and loved ones with one of these without increasing anyone's chances of dying.
Only 12.8 to 16 joules of energy? The average persons fist punch has 100-200 joules of energy. Pro boxers can hit 400 joules. Not sure someone on meth would even notice being hit with this self defense toy.
None of your business! My concern is people buying this product, giving them a false sense of security. Then they get into serious trouble
Energy alone is absolutely insufficient to judge that question. A 9mm bullet imparts approximately 855 J of energy. You don't honestly believe that an average fist punch is 1/6 as destructive as a bullet, do you? This size projectile at 330 fps and 16 joules of energy would be quite painful. And if someone were concerned that the impact pain would be insufficient, they also have pepper-spray and even tear-gas filled ammunition to incapacitate the "meth-heads". You're arrogantly and ignorantly dismissing a viable non-lethal alternative without adequate information.
Kind sir, Yes I am ignorant, due to 60 years of shooting a very large variety and types of weapons, 20 years competitively, and 6 years in the Marine Corps. I am completely ignorant how to calculate the power of each weapon. And yes, I believe my numbers on the power of a fist punch are correct, do some research. I agree this is non-lethal, but it is not a self defense weapon, other than looking like one. To be fair. Given the speed, weight, and size of the round. It would be similiar to being hit with a hammer that was moving at a slow speed. Most people would feel the impact, but with little to no pain. Depending on where the round landed. The difference in speed is to balance the much heavier weight of the hammer.
What gun control law has ever actually reduced violent crime or murder rates a significant amount? Would you feel better if these people were run over by a semi truck?
Not a bad option. About the same price as a Glock. More expensive than some others... Typically if you don’t need a lethal option, you don’t need to engage at all. If you NEED to engage, I wouldn’t bet my (and my family’s) life on less-lethal. There are 400 million guns in the US. If the good guys don't have guns they will be at a disadvantage to the bad guys. Even if I don't have a gun, the bad guy might. I don't want to be in the position of wishing I did. Again, it's not a bad option. But it's simply not the force multiplier that a gun is.
