After Friday's Warriors-New Jersey game at the Arena, ESPN's George Karl said Musselman told him he believed the Warriors, who overturned their roster last offseason, would have six new players on next year's roster. When Musselman was asked about that topic before the game, he referred topics related to personnel to general manager Garry St. Jean. ...

Avery Johnson, Evan?, NVE?, Dampier?, Cheany?

If Foyle and Damp go, then who are we stuck with at C? Eschmeyer? Possibly draft a big man/project?

I think CR2 has it right. Avery, Foyle, Cardinal, Cheaney are free agents. Damp and hopefully NVE will opt out too. We can waive Popeye and unfortunately we're stuck with Eschmeyer for a year or two.

By then Eschemeyer should be healthy. He probably hurt his knees begging for some playing time.

I always thought he was healthy, but they just stick him on the IR just to open up room on the roster.

The big thing for the warriors management is not to spend any money on long term contracts. So I think fans could get their wish with the possibility that Cohan is trying to sell the team maybe in a year or so? In 2005, virtually everything comes off the books except for Eschmeyer and Pietrus. Or maybe Mullin will assume full authority by that time and St. Jean's contract will be up. Who knows. Maybe Cohan is just tired of hearing his name in the same setence as an expletive. I mean how would you like to be the most hated franchise owner in the bay area. I'd imagine over the scope of 10 years you'd want to be able to step outside your spider hole in Oakland without getting beaten to death for spending all this dang money on a new arena just for the warriors to continue not making the playoffs every single year you've been in office. He's got to make a move.

    that is interesting.

There are 5 players with expiring contracts according to hoopshype.com. Those 5 are Cheaney, Cardinal, Avery, Foyle, and Jones. And then of course there are two players with player-options in Damp and NVE.

I don't know how much accuracy that quote has for the future of the team. But i guess it's something to speculate off of.

I guess if there'd be 6 new players, there'd be 6 returning players as well, since a team usually has about 12 players on it. Who would those 6 be? Speedy, Jrich, Dunleavy, Pietrus, Murphy, and NVE?

But in all seriousness. How long are we going to take this from Saint Jean and from the Warriors? They blow up everything. They are so inept at managing a pro basketball team it's just sad. The drafts have been alright, which is one thing people like to say and give Saint a lot of credit for. But it's the deals he does with contracts and trades that make this team a complete mess. He ends building processes early so many times; such as back in 99 or around there when the Warriors traded Jason Terry who would had been a good building block for Mookie Blaylock who did nothing. And then they trade cap room for this next offseason for old players with one more year on it(Sura for Cliff trade).

Now they are demolishing everything they were building for 6 years, and this is AFTER they had their best season out of so many years.

Saint has failed to get and retain a superstar. It seems that he doesn't try to make a trade for a superstar, he can't sign a superstar because he had used the cap space on players such as Mills, Caffey, Fortson, Dampier, Bobby Sura, Marshall, Mookie etc. and he hasn't been able to retain his lone superstar that he drafted in Gilbert Arenas from so many mistakes he's made in the past, as he'd been ruining this franchise.

And now the Warriors are going to bring in 6 new players next year. yee-haa!

When will us fans and the media or whoever else, rise above this tragedy that the Warriors franchise has become? I HOPE that the Warriors get a new GM QUICK.

I think Musselman is just venting and speculating that the management won't even keep the guys that are so valuable this year who are listed as free agents after this season. He would have liked to at least have Boykins from last year, Jamison instead of NVE, or Gilbert to run the ball up. They all were good at running and all made their free throws. And they were consistent in that you knew what to expect. Those were Musselman's kind of guys definitely.

i would love to see cheaney, damp, foyle, popeye, and avery come off the books... it would also be great if avery came back to work as a coach. unfortunately, though, nick won't be leaving... which would have been huge this summer... our big man is coming via the draft.... keep ur eyes on either ivan chiriaev or pavel podkolzine to possibilities for the warriors... just NO MORE SG/SFs please.... we have too many as is.. damp is garbage and is only playing well cuz of his damn opt out clause and we should take this chance to get him the hell out of here... maybe sign back foyle, but only if it is reasonable.. like maybe 2mil/yr.. at most...

hopefully all works out for the best (which means saint will be fired... PLEASE!)

A healthy nick will be good. He is a go-to guy. The trick is to get him open once he gets healthy... if he ever gets healthy. Have the coach write some plays for him so the rest of the team knows where to be. It's kind of Nick's fault that he came off his knee surgery way too early. But he meant well by it in trying to help his team. What he shouldn't have done was publicly complain about Musselman after his poor performance. That was just a no-no. What do you think about Musselman this year?

Pavel is raw but worth taking a chance on if you've got good big men and coaches to mentor him, which we won't have btw. Ivan Chiraev is a small forward so if the warriors do draft him (god forbid) he will most likely play that role of a small forward! He is probably too slow to play anything else and too skinny to play anything bigger. My perception of him is that he will be a big bust. But he's got a lot of potential despite being so raw. I'd imagine he'd be like way, way less talented version of Nikolov Tskitishvilli. All that potential, but too raw, and skinny to really make an impact. Plus, I heard from some people who claim he's really awful even in Canadian high school ball. He's got scouting comparrisons to Mike Dunleavy Jr., but I think he's being overrated and mostly being sold on his size. MDJ has the fundamentals whereas I don't think Ivan has them at all. And we don't need another MDJ until our first MDJ gets really good consistently. Let's hope we re-sign Foyle and St. Jean goes bye-bye.

    And welcome to this board!

I heard somewhere that Avery was going to be coming back as a player, not a coach. I got the feeling he had an option too. I would like to see Chaney back at a contract similar to his now, except for more than 1 year. Cardinal is playing like poop right now. He better get straight or else he will not be back next year. I would like to see him back at this point. Foyle better show me something this year or else he is not coming back. He is making $4m + right now, he is not worth that right now. Other than that I could care less about the rest of those guys. I hope we can sign someone good with the money we would have spent on Damp.

I'd take Cardinal over Cheaney any day of the week because he brings more dimensions to the game. All the players go through slumps anyway.

I used to think Chaney was more consistent. He made a few jumpers tonight.

I think Cheaney is a great role model though.

Why wasn't Brian Cardinal in the game that much tonight? Is he still struggling shooting the ball?

I think its because of his size. 6'8" is too short to be a rebounding power forward unless you're Elton Brand or "Tractor" Traylor with a wide body.
