(This article has yet to hit papers) TORONTO (CP) - When the season began, many speculated Vince Carter might finally be returned to his former glory, vie for the MVP candidate, and lead his team to the playoffs. What many didn't speculate is that he might not be doing it for the Toronto Raptors. Although nothing has been confirmed, speculations from within hint that the Raptors have been attempting to ink a deal that would send Carter, a first round draft pick in 2004, and a second rounder in 2005, to the Clippers for Elton Brand and Predrag Drobnjak. The Raptors have been leaked as saying that they're trying to improve their inside scoring and aggressiveness, and also want to take the pressure off of rookie Bosh. Here's the snag--Carter signed a 6 year, 85+ million dollar extension with the Raptors in 2001. That's a hefty price for the normally-cheap Clippers to be considering, so rumor has it as well that either a third team might become involved in this trade, or that the Clippers will add Quentin Richardson to the mix as well as long as the Raptors agree to add another player from their side to the trade of whom the Clippers approve. In either scenario, this could very well be Carter's last few games with the team that helped him begin his career--look for him to struggle with these rumors looming over his head until something happens.
