Seattle Times: "Barry, a co-captain and the second-longest tenured current Sonic, must wonder how much the team values his leadership after both sides broke off talks that would have renewed his contract, which expires after the season."

This makes the quiet trade deadline look really bad. I hope they can renew contract negotiations because not only will it be a great player lost but also a missed opportunity. This will be a huge proving ground for the Sonics' management to show the fans what their priorities are. I personally think Barry is a vital part of this organization on and off the court.

:sighs:...another type of loss...I really think Seattle should reevaluate this decision...do they really want one of their [clearly] best players to leave? hmm...and all this potential in some of the players...I mean they're good...but it seems like they're not evolving...they get stuck in that mode (like Flip Murray...he WAS good, but now it's just like he's stuck in that off-the-bench mode...I mean (edit=BOBBY) Jackson comes off-the-bench and he's still awesome...and the same with Nick Van Exel last year...)...hmm what do you guys think about Barry's & Seattle's "quiet talks about the trade"?

Brent's been quoted the past few days speaking quite highly of re-signing, and that he was comfortable with negotiations being put off until the off-season. I still have confidence that he will be here next year, I wouldn't read too much into that article at all. Seattle knows how valuable he is.

Refer to the thread, "Brent Barry's Importance". There are only two Barrys currently in the league.

He is a leader, a super influence on his teammates (particularly the younger ones) and a very smart and unselfish guy on the basketball court. Not to mention his versatility, you can bet he will be very highly sought after this offseason.

He may be one of the Warriors most sought after free agents. Does he play guard or forward? We are already pretty stacked at both of those positions. Chaney will probably be gone this season so we can sign Barry to a 3 year deal instead of extending Chaney.
