Anyone else a little impressed by him?

Part of me is hoping it isn't and part of me is hoping it is the yearly case where Glenn forgets about a player on the bench.

Then the said player comes in and helps the Celtics in many ways in the second half of the season.

Pruitt has shown he can bring the ball up (!) and his defense was superb all night long.

    Heh.

I liked what I saw from Gabe last night. We know he can shoot, we know he can handle the ball, we know he's extremely athletic, we know he's a big point guard, but the one thing that impressed me the most last night was what aquaitious pointed out - his defense. He was extremely active on every defensive possession and really moved his feet. I knew he had quick hands from watching him a couple times at USC, but his on-ball defense was pretty impressive last night.

With that said, I still think he's a year or two away from becoming a steady rotation point guard, and we need a serviceable veteran backup for Rondo by playoff time.

I'd like to see Pruitt get more minutes. We need help at that spot and at the moment we do not have that vet PG that everying keeps talking about. Let's see what the kids got, and let get him some minutes so in the event we need him, he'll have some PT and confidence.

Yeah, I'd love to see Gabe get more minutes now, but this point guard situation needs to be fixed at some point. Preferably within this next month, before the deadline, and at the very least before the postseason begins. Who? I don't know, but it needs to be addressed or we're going to have problems in the playoffs.

He's a Tim Floyd player, so he needs work on the offensive end. His defense, though, is pretty damned good. Since people have forgot, this is basically the same way that West was brought along, sparing minutes during the first half of the season while he figured out what the NBA was about, and then increasing time over the back half of the year. He has the tools to be an effective NBA roleplayer, a sort of new and improved Delonte West.

Actually E.H. it's how all rookies are brought up in Rivers-land. "Sit them for the first half of the year, then when the fans start yelling 'put x in' you play them." [IMG]

Yeah I think he is very similar to Delonte in a lot of ways, with his size and shooting ability. He's also bigger (Delonte is about 6'2'' but is listed at 6'4'' - Gabe is a legit 6'3'' or 6'4'') and looks to be a much better on-ball defender than Delonte, who makes defensive plays with his hustle and heart rather than his brain and footwork like Gabe. I think he has a lot of potential, and I think he could very well be a steal down the line if he plays his cards right. I liked him a lot in college, and I had him in the late first round on my mock. If he pans out, I think he'd be the perfect backup to Rondo. A bigger guard who gives us a different look with his shooting ability.

As of right now, however, I'm hoping and praying for a veteran backup.

If you notice, they give Pruitt run against teams with young point guards, where he isn't getting his ass kicked by good vets.
