A highly-praised, high-flying start is not enough for William Gallas. The Arsenal captain feels his side have to lift a trophy this season.

The 30-year-old central defender is even prepared to curb his team’s attacking instincts and ‘win ugly’ to do it.

“This season I don't know if we will win the Champions League or the Premier League but definitely we have to win something,” he said on the eve of tonight’s Champions League tie with Slavia Prague. “If we can win them both that would be good.

“We know we play good football but I have said before you can play well and win nothing. Maybe we have to play not so good but we win. The more important thing is the victory.

“When you start the season and start winning game by game, you believe in yourself and the squad.

“Now all the young players know we can do something and they really want to win because if you don't win anything there is no point.

“We know the season will be long and we know we have to improve in every game. That will not be easy for us because every team wants to beat Arsenal but we are ready to fight them.”
