AL: NY YANKEES (23-29) at BOSTON (36-17) <h3>There's always fireworks at Red Sox-Yankees</h3> NY Yankees (23-29) at Boston (36-17), 3:55 pm EDT BOSTON (Ticker) -- A seemingly harmless 9-5 drubbing Fridayturned into a heated exchange as Scott Proctor hummed a fastballunder the chin of Kevin Youkilis. The benches cleared, but nopunches were thrown. Hopefully the tempers will have cooled by Saturday, when theBoston Red Sox host the New York Yankees in the second game oftheir three-game set. All in all, five batters were hit by pitches in Friday'scontest, including a fastball from Yankees starter Chien-MingWang that left Mike Lowell with a left hand contusion and forcedhim out of the game. Curt Schilling - never one to shy away from a battle - will takethe mound for the Red Sox on Saturday. The veteran righthanderis coming off his finest performance of the season, when heheld the Cleveland Indians one run in seven innings whilestriking out 10 and not issuing a walk. Schilling (5-2, 3.68 ERA) has been hit hard by New York in twostarts this season. He has allowed 11 runs - 10 earned - in 13innings against the Yankees, picking up the loss on May 23 andnot factoring in the decision on April 20. The Yankees will counter with their own veteran righthander MikeMussina. The 38-year-old had his worst start of the seasonagainst Boston on May 22. Mussina allowed seven runs and 10 hits in 6 2/3 innings to takethe loss. He might have a stronger offense to work with this time though,as Bobby Abreu, Robinson Cano and Melky Cabrera are all showingsigns of breaking out of their season-long slumps. Each had twohits in Friday's game. With Friday's win the Yankees pulled to within 12 1/2 games ofthe front-running Red Sox.
