SUNRISE, Florida (Ticker) - Teams in desperate need of a victorywill square off Thursday when the Washington Capitals visit theFlorida Panthers in the first matchup between the SoutheastDivision rivals this season.


The Capitals have lost five of their last six games, including a5-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday. WhileWashington has struggled to put the puck in the net this year,averaging 2.35 goals, they boast one of the best wingers in thegame in 22-year-old Alex Ovechkin, who comes into the game with11 goals and 19 points in 17 games this season. He scored agoal in the loss to Tampa Bay on Saturday.


Florida comes into the contest on a four-game losing skid,having lost to the Atlanta Thrashers, 3-2, in overtime onTuesday.


The Panthers have also struggled to put the puck in the net,averaging 2.47 goals. Center Olli Jokinen leads Florida inscoring with nine goals and 20 points in 19 games.
