NL: SAN DIEGO (66-58) at NY METS (71-53) <h3>Peavy looks to outduel former teammate</h3> <div class="pre">San Diego (66-58) at NY Mets (71-53) 7:10 pm EDT</div> FLUSHING, New York (Ticker) -- After seeing one of their two aceshave a rare bad outing, the San Diego Padres will look torebound from a disappointing loss when they continue theirthree-game series with the New York Mets on Wednesday. In the series opener on Tuesday, the Padres saw Chris Young -the major league leader in ERA - allow a run in an outing forjust the second time in five games, permitting four over fiveinnings of a 7-6 loss. Jake Peavy (13-5, 2.19 ERA), who has the second-best ERA inbaseball after Young, will look to pick up his teammate and alsotry to shut down what has been a hot offense lately, as theMets have scored over seven runs a game in winning six of theirlast seven contests. The righthander suffered a hard-luck loss in his last turn onFriday when he yielded a run and four hits over seven inningsbut could not get much support from his offense in a 3-1 setbackto the Houston Astros on Friday. The loss ended a personalfour-game winning streak for Peavy, who struck out 11 batters inthe contest. The National League leader in strikeouts with 175, Peavy is 3-2with a 3.35 ERA in eight lifetime starts against New York. Opposing Peavy will be ex-teammate Brian Lawrence (1-0, 5.06),who will be facing his former team for the first time since thePadres traded him to the Washington Nationals following the 2005season. Lawrence spent five seasons with the team, going 49-61in that time.
