STPAUL PP -- "I don't know what the (expletive) the league is doing," Garnett said. "It's bugged out." Read More...
The league is ruining the damn game!!! How about you let the players PLAY and stop trying to intervene. First zone, then the touchy fouls, now this zero tolerance b.s.. The game is being trashed
<div class="quote_poster">Chutney Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Maybe he's just getting it all out of his system before the regular season starts.</div> Maybe but the league is taking some things a little too far. They seem to have to much control right now.
I don't know, I'm not against this rule as much as I was against the dress code, etc. I mean, how annoying is it to watch players whine after every call? It's what turns off a lot of casual fans and annoys the hell out of me. The way players just ignore the game and pointlessly argue with the refs is worse than flopping on defense, in my books.

It's a game in which emotions are usually displayed through a basketball. Personally, I get emotional and into the calls that are even made in pickup games because I am so into trying to tie the game up or win. So, in the 4th quarter, these displays should be expected from NBA players. However, the thing that pisses me off is that, although the NBA is trying to crack down on whiners and zero tolerance policies, it needs to improve it's officiating overall. If players cannot even eye a refferee without getting a tech, then referees shouldn't be able to bypass superstar players with phantom calls and let them go when they make obvious fouls (i.e- Kobe elbowing Bibby in 2002 or Wade elbowing Dirk this year). The league is too caught up in all the extra stuff nowadays...it's annoying but when the season starts, I'm pretty sure it'll fade. The problems regarding bad officiating won't cease though, as long as Dick Bavetta and Salvatore are in the league.
The problem is not the players, the problem is the ego of the officials around the league. They bait players into overreacting, so they can 'T' them up. Junoon is absolutely right, your emotions do get the best of you on the court and it's up to the officials to recognize that and calm the player or coach down by explaining why he made the call. What I see instead is the officials trying to stare the players down, or just turn their back to them. This causes the player or coach to curse at the official and then they get with a technical. It would be a lot better for both sides if an official just admits he missed a call or justifies why he made a controversial call. Being stubborn and putting their egos first is bad for the game and leads to criticism.
