<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">As rare as the situation was, as odd as the play was in which Kevin Garnett fell backward onto the floor late in overtime Monday night, the ball in his hands, things could have gotten worse for the Timberwolves than a traveling call on Garnett. Remember, the Wolves were out of timeouts when Garnett grabbed an inbounds pass and basically lost his balance. No Kings players tied him up for a jump ball or fouled him. As Garnett started to sit up, referee Jimmy Clark called him for the travel. "He fell straight down," guard Sam Cassell fumed afterward. "This ain't college. He can move forward, he can't move [sideways]. He can sit up, he can't stand up." But a chat with Don Vaden, an NBA official supervising the referees during the series, suggested that Clark might have spared the Wolves a real mess. By blowing his whistle when he did, the ref prevented Garnett or any other Wolves player from instinctively calling for a timeout. That would have sent the Kings to the free-throw line with an easy chance to tie.</div> Link
That could have been real bad if somebody called a timeout. But I think everyone knew the situation, and I do not believe that anyone would have called a timeout. But with all these what ifs after that game, you can pretty much go from any scenario and it could sound bad.
