But it's too early to say whether No. 8 pick Brandan Wright, reigning "most improved player" Monta Ellis and an assortment of fat and/or expiring contracts will be enough. Wright can't be traded for 30 days because he signed his rookie contract Friday </div>

Interesting. You guys can definetly put together a great package with Monta Ellis and Brandan Wright

I really do not like this trade, like I have stated before... This trade is enough for a one year run at the title. KG might opt out next season. The Warriors basically are throwing thier well fortuned future away. They would only have Biedrins, which is not nearly enough to get past Durant and Oden. Also, I would have thought Mullin would think twice about trading the MIP after Gill. I love a core with Ellis-Wright-Biedrins. That team can definatley compete with the Sonics and Blazers.

Jeez... I'm not sure what to think of this if this is definitely going to happen. This whole thing could go either way on us. We could be contenders overnight or back to the lottery if KG leaves us. Very high risk, but I like the idea of two MVP candidates + Biedrins + Sjax on our team + a shooter like Marco Belinelli and a nice player like Kelenna Azubuike off the bench (or possibly starting).

Is Garnett too old? No, I don't think Garnett is too old because big men can stay in the league quite a while and still be very effective team players as long as they remain strong and decently quick. My problem with a possible move for KG is just that we give up a lot of future stars with really high upside and Garnett may leave us once his deal is up. But... the way I also see it is we can't have Baron complaining the way Kobe Bryant is about Andrew Bynum being a hold up to landing Jason Kidd in a Laker's uniform. (See "the Kobe video"). If we land one of the top players in the league and it costs us a guy that plays the same position as Baron and a lightweight power forward we got for Jrich (that might not even be strong for the first couple years)... we might as well try to do it under this window of opportunity. The window doesn't stay open forever.

Then I'm also thinking what if Baron gets really hurt and can't play much like what happened to Terrell Brandon or Grant Hill. I really wish then we kept Ellis and kept Wright because KG could be like the next aging Clif Robinson type guy. Appreciated, but obviously well passed his prime.

Meh. I'm sick of losing, sick of "potential". If you can get Garnett without giving up Biedrins, and you can get a 3-year commitment out of KG, then I say you do it. This Warriors franchise just doesn't do so well with "if"s and "potential" and "upside" and "rebuilding". Let's get it done before it all falls apart.

If it was 2+ years guaranteed I'd be all over a trade for him.

We may get to the playoffs with our current roster. But to do damage we need a second star.

BD + KG would kill teams.

Well Marco Belinelli may have something to say about how important Monta is to the future of the team. If Monta Ellis can't make the PG transition, Marco may make Ellis expendable, especially for a hall of famer.

Who knows, maybe in the future a lineup of Monta/Marco/Azubuike/Wright/Biedrins will be a playoff team. But in my opinion it's way too early to say that a Ellis/Wright/Biedrins is going to be something special. I have my doubts that it would be as special as something like Baron/Azubuike/Jackson/KG/Biedrins (with Marco off the bench). What I am saying is that Ellis + Wright (or if Wright shows he can start immediately then I may substitute Biedrins for Wright with this statement) along with Harrington and Foyle for KG is something I am interested in. Now I definitely don't want the Warriors to trade Ellis, Biedrins, Wright, and Harrington. That is way too much. However trading three of those players and Foyle for KG may not be all that bad (well unless if it's the three bigs together).

The word we are dealing with right now is potential. It's tough to judge potential. I remember many fans wanted trade JRich because of Pietrus' potential. Potential is tough to measure. It is also tough to judge how good this future "core" would be. What is more important? the future core or the current core? I think Mullin sides with the present core. But I don't think he'll blow away the future for something that has a bigger chance of blowing up.

I don't know, maybe Wright is the real deal. But I think Marco, Harrington and Biedrins can make Wright and Ellis expendable for a future hall of famer and several time all-star. Perhaps the deal best for the Warriors to compete for a title won't happen, so no deal may happen in the end.

No way I give up Biedrins -- guards are much easier to replace, especially in Nellie's system. To find a center who can please Nellie, run the floor, finish at the rim, block shots, that's hard. Biedrins is flat out awesome for where he is in his career. Nearly a double-double last year, arguably among the group of top centers in the league, and he's just a kid. NO WAY do I give Beans.

Monta and Wright? Well, as mentioned above, Belly might just explode onto the scene if given a chance. Still, why do it if it's only for one guaranteed year?

It may be that Minny knows KG is sick of Minny, and will opt out next year, so McHale is just trying to get young pieces to build around now, for free, instead of getting nothing next year when KG walks. Why give McHale two top prospects, including MIP, for a one-year rental?

If they can work out a 3, 4, or even 5 year deal with Garnett, then I'm sold. Then at least we'd know for certain who is our long term franchise guy, and we can plug in Beans, Belinelli, Jax, Baron, Az, even Barnes, Powell, Lasme, Harrington, etc, as we see fit.

But if the future is still up in the air even after getting KG, there's no point at all, to me. Yes, 1 year of KG would be good, but it won't net a ring. It would take a plan to build around him, and that means a long-term contract.

1st of all, Garnett wouldn't be traded without an extension. That would just be stupid. 2ndly, as you'll see, with a top point guard, any 2 guard can look great in a running system. Ellis is special, but not Garnett Special. You're talking about a 25 and 14 every night out of 1 guy in the front court every night. Especially if he's next to Beidrins who will clean up all the rest of the mess. They'd be the top rebounding/shot-blocking tandem in the league, which fuels the fast break. Sure Mullin would have to fill up the bench with a few more role players, but that's what top teams are. A few studs and a collection of role players. Especially with a coach like Nelly who can manipulate lineups with those role players. Now I still don't believe the trade is going to happen, becuase Mullin hasn't made any of these trades that everyone has known about in the past. But if he did, I'd be the first to give him a standing O.

The Insider talks that the Grizzlies are pursuing Big Men
It says that the GM is talking to the agents for Orlando's Darko Milicic and Anderson Varejao in Vegas.

It seems to me that Pau is up for trade if this is the case. I wonder if Mully is talking S&T with Pietrus here (we all know how much West likes him) I honestly think that something like that is a much more likely scenario than the Garnett Talk.

If he comes cheaper, that would be AWESOME! Getting Gasol would be huge for this team, IMO. Especially considering that, for some inexplicable reason, his trade value seems to be low. This is a guy who could return to perennial all-star form. And he would no doubt come much cheaper than KG...

When watching a Memphis summer league game Sat.... the announcer said that the new GM....can't think of his name..... flew to Spain to have a one on one with GAsol assuring him that they were building the team around him and to encourage him to get fired up and in shape for the coming season.

    GM Chris Wallace

Mullin also Gauranteed JRich that he wouldn't be trading him as well.

Those are all good points, Clif. I think my main concern for keeping Ellis is that if Baron Davis goes down, we need some kind of tall, quick player that can just blast right by people off the dribble and shoot from at least 20 feet consistently. That can be like Monta, but he's got a lot ahead of him when it comes to growing into a capable point guard that coaches trust out there on the floor. He's definitely a good defensive player on the ball and that I like. But however, that long range shot, his ball handle control, and his playmaking ability are sub-par for nba starting point. I wish Ellis could do the things that Baron Davis does in making others better, but now I'll be happy if Ellis turns out to be a lot like Steve Francis back when he was healthy. Ellis as a combo guard leaning more towards shooting guard is still a step up from getting guys like David Wesley or Derek Fisher or whatnot. That is unless our shooting guard is flat out quick like T-mac, Vince Carter, or Kobe Bryant and they can create off the dribble and distribute.

I know this was addressed to CohanHater, but maybe Garnett would go for added security over the freedom of going to any team he wants to once his contract is up?

So, he could want all this money now because he's sort of young (but not really) and then he gets a lot guaranteed money later as incentive to stay with the franchise (like the Derek Fisher deal or Jason Kidd deal). I'm not sure what Garnett's priority would be regarding contract extensions or signing the minimum/mle with a championship contender a la Karl Malone/Gary Payton. I'd imagine KG could ask for some extension and then when the team doesn't do well to meet his expectations, he can then ask for another trade. LOL. [IMG] Who knows. Star players can be all in one day and then checked out the other. But you gotta admit KG has held out quite a while. Whoever he goes to would only be his second team. He should get a fresh start at least once just like Baron.

Well, what I mean is, stupid for who?

I think it would be stupid for GS to accept the trade without getting a guarantee for at least 3+ years.

But to assume there's no way Garnett would be traded without an extension... I don't see the certainty. I mean, he doesn't have to do anything he doesn't want to. If Minny tries to trade him to a city he doesn't want to be in, hell no he won't sign an extension. But Minny might still do the trade, just to get their prospects. And maybe KG wants to have his options open.

I think it's a legit possibility that the current trade talks between GS and KG involve the contract as it is -- without any extension. And, IMO, if GS does that, without first demanding an extension -- THAT would be stupid of them to do.

Ah, I get it now. I thought it was regarding more of Garnett's side of the deal, even though the Warriors would like to know that Garnett being traded here wouldn't result in being a one or two year rental. I think if Garnett could be extended for at least 4 I'd be happy. Garnett's always been pretty healthy as a player, so maybe even 5 or 6. I'm not sure what the management would project his skills as being 4+ years from now. I think even as an old player he could still do a lot of damage against other teams. It's the old guards we got to watch out for.

Anyway, I get it now. I guess it could be perceived as stupid for us if we can't get him to commit to playing for at least 3 or more years here. We'd give a lot of our future up to land an MVP type player. That's the deal that most people assume unless we're offering future picks instead of current picks.

Yeah, that would be stupid. The only way I'd consider the trade is if KG agrees to an extension that keeps him here for 3, 4, 5, or more years, so we can build around him. Otherwise, it's a waste of young prospects.

I just don't think it's a given that Mullin feels the same way. Maybe he is gambling on a 2-year-rental shot at a title. That would suck.

Am i wrong or don't we have a little leverage here on a KG deal? I mean it seem like there just isnt that many teams with the pieces to make it happen. If minnesota took odom (always injured) and bynum plus their scrap players for KG..... it would sicken me.... the lakers simply do not have the talent to offer for a legit deal.... i say legit because i still believe stern pulls strings and kg ends up a laker. But that is my paranoid anti laker thinking.

I know Chicago probably can put the best offer up, possibly the suns and atlanta..... but it just seems like the longer we wait the less we have to give. The rumours floating now already seem to have dropped AB from the deal and now say WRight/Monta and roster filler. I think we may be able to wait it out.... offer wright or monta.... most likely wright as they already have foye/mccants..... so say wright - POb future picks (which nelson has given away freely in the past (webber deal) and harrington + exemption.....

Maybe what Mccants claims is true .... that kg doesnt want to go anywhere.... I am fine with that

But if we are going to make a move for him ..... I say wait it out a bit til we get the right deal and not just throw it all away in excitement of getting the big ticket.

And no way do i trade any future away for KG without him signing off on an extention.
