Been reported that Gary Payton has told his close friends that he has stated the L.A Lakers are his first option to sign for...and as long as everything works out thats who he will be playing for next season..but if that falls through..he would end up in Portland or at the Timberwolves

    very interesting

    Shaq
    Kobe
    Payton

    nice trio there...

i'll have even more respect for GP. he is choosing winning over money and is stepping down from the 1st or 2nd option on a team to the 3rd option.

yeah, Lakers not the "easy way for a championship." But I can see the trio happening: Kobe, Bryant, and Payton...I guess it's a matter of Lakers options and choices! Let's watch and see.... 8)

It'll be good... still doesn't solve the Laker's glaring weakness at PF though. And with GP signing, and Buss not wanting to pay too much luxury tax, you can bet any chance of signing PJ or 'Zo or Malone goes right out the window.

payton will stay in milwaukee. hed be respected more for that. even if he signs with LA they still likely wont be able to beat San Antonio with Duncan and Jermaine/kidd

I don't think he will care about that,he has done everything in this league but win a title...and thats his main goal...mitch richmond did the same..he had a great career but didn't win a title..so he went to the lakers and got the ring he deserved...

by the sounds returning to the Bucks is last on his list.

how does playing for the lakers make him less respectable? he would be sacrificing a lot for an opportunity to win a championship, shouldn't that be the attitude of athletes, WIN. payton has nothing left to prove as a player and he is approaching retirement. signing with a contender is his only chance to get a ring so i have no qualms about him wanting to win with the lakers or spurs next season. he will be a major contributor to either team. it would be different if he just signed and sat on the bench riding the coat tails of the rest of the team to get his ring, but that's now how it's going down if he signs with the lakers.

Its the easy way out like I said... we all know he wants to win a championship (and we know Laker Lovers would love to see him in LA)... but LA doesnt really need another star player to get to the finals

it would probably ensure them another championship but you cant honstley say that Gary Payton contributed all he had just enough for the Lakers to get the title... maybe winning with KG in Minny or even Portland would be another story

I think it is possible that GP might go back to seattle.

I heard Arenas might sign with the Lakers.
