Unbeaten southpaw welterweight prospect Frankie Gavin (11-0, 8 KO’s) had to struggle to beat Curtis Woodhouse (15-3, 10 KO’s) by a 12 round split decision on Saturday night at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England. The final judges’ scores were 117-112, 116-112 for Gavin, and 115-114 for Woodhouse. I had Gavin barely nicking the decision, but by just an eyelash. The win, if you want to call it that, really begs the question whether Gavin has what it takes to ever become a world champion. He lacks the speed, the power and the defensive ability from what I can see to make it at the world level. He’s good enough for domestic honors but that’s about all I can see from him. Woodhouse, a fighter that Gavin should have been able to easily beat if he was the real thing, was tagging Gavin with hard shots all night long and making Gavin work really hard for the win. read more: http://www.boxingnews24.com/2011/07/gavin-defeats-woodhouse-looks-horrible/#more-73371
