What was the highest American GDP per capita in current dollars in history? Or rather, if the economy was awesome in 1997 (randomly chosen), what was the GDP then adjusted for inflation now. What I am getting at is, what is the best case proven scenario for growing the economy under the Romney plan and yet still keeping the tax rates low, but offsetting these low rates with a higher GDP? I'm sorry if that question is poorly worded.
You're asking about the highest real GDP per capita. I found this graph, which goes through 2003: http://faculty.hacc.edu/jhuang/econdata/htm/rgdp_pc/rgdp_pc_showcase.htm Presumably there's other data out there, and I would anticipate that it's gone up since 2003 in spite of economic woes. Ed O.
Here's another chart with more recent numbers. http://www.advisorperspectives.com/dshort/updates/Real-GDP-Per-Capita.php Looks like 2007 was the peak so far. Ed O.
