Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith has not looked like a rookie early in training camp and his teammates — including Antonio Cromartie — have noticed.

“I’m just surprised by how well he’s picking up the offense” the cornerback said yesterday. “Him coming from a shotgun formation offense [in college] and now him being under center and do the things he does — it shows he’s a different kid.”

Smith has not thrown an interception yet in training camp. Mark Sanchez threw his first during team drills yesterday.

“Geno’s been doing a heck of a job making sure he’s not throwing any interceptions” Cromartie said. “He’s making the right choices.”

    * Jets DL/OLB Quinton Coples does not lack confidence.

The second-year player who is working both inside and outside on the Jets defensive line believes the unit could be the best in the NFL.

“No disrespect or discredit to any defensive front out there but we want to be the best and make our own name” Coples said.

The Jets have a ton of high draft picks on the defensive line. Muhammad Wilkerson Kenrick Ellis Coples and Sheldon Richardson all have been taken within the first three rounds of the draft in the last three years.
