Anyone else notice that Cole has been made the default poster boy for this foreign substance SNAFU? Personally, I think it's a bit unfair. For lack of a better term, it seems somewhat like a public lynching.
T. Bauer has some interesting points in this article. He's blasted MLB for singling some out and ignoring others, and he's been criticizing the entire process since 2018, as one of the more outspoken critics. I have little doubt he's using something sticky, perhaps moreso than anyone. Maybe it's not pine tar at all, perhaps it's "sticky-icky" cannabis resin. After all it's legal here in LaLa land. .
What ticks me off is that Donaldson and others are pointing fingers with no evidence, only suspicions. And some are even equating this issue as being as big as steroids, which is ridiculous...several players were caught with corked bats but it never got the attention this latest scandal has. From what I've read, Umps will start randomly checking pitchers as they come off the mound between innings. I'm sure some will still try to use the sticky stuff and some will get caught and fined and or suspended...but comparing this to steroid use?....please.
Just heard Jim Thom state that given Coles abilites and his tttitude towards the game make him a candiae to be left alone. If MLB wishes to investigate sbstances fine get on with it.
