Listed the guys I think will be the ones leading the franchise along with Lincecum and Cain in the next two to five years. It's a shame to think they've gotten this much talent so quickly when they totally ignored the farm system for years. Good thing I'm not over the hill yet
Mine too. His weight previously worried me, combined with the fact that he played a position (catcher) where we actually had a decent hitter (Molina) in the majors already ahead of him and a top prospect (Posey) behind him in the minors. But he has shown the versatility to play different positions, and he just keeps hitting.
Yeah, the guy is a tank. I would hate to be the catcher and try and hold on to the ball while having the beast come running down and trying to score. Do you think he has the potential to be a future all star?
if those two pitchers develop, we could have a great young rotation. obviously, either sandoval or posey is going to have to switch positions, which one, and where?
I think it really depends on what position he plays. If he ever ends up back behind the plate again, all he would really have to do would be to maintain his offensive output, and be average to slightly above average defensively/ calling the game. If he goes to one of the corner infield spots, I think it is going to be A LOT harder. He has definetly raised the level of expectation for the next couple of years. He's basically now an important part of the Giants everyday lineup. Three months ago he was a decent prospect blocking a great prospect.
My guess would be Sandoval as he is already learning other positions. Posey first made a name for himself nationally when he played every position in college in one game. Another reason the Giants were so happy he dropped to them was his versatility. But his power numbers don't "project" (that word can kill you) to be as good Sandoval or Villalona, the other corner infield prospect. It's easier to hide a guy who doesn't hit homers behind the plate than at first or third. He's also great at handling the pitching staff and calling a game (probably because he was the closer for Florida State).
