Yahoo Sports reports that the Giants have agreed to a 5 year 90 million contract with Jeff Samardzija as per Tim Brown.

SHIT!, not happy with this at all, looks like another over payment by the Giants (Zito) Seriously $18M per for a career 47-61 pitcher with an ERA over 4 & has NEVER had a winning season since becoming a starter. Last season he went 11-13 with an ERA near 5 while earning $9.8M and for this he almost doubles his salary. WTF? I would have just been happy if they resigned Leake.

    Good #3-4 starter?
Now he'll go out there and win the Cy Young.
The more I see other teams trading good prospects and paying through the nose for free agent pitchers,
..the more excited I get thinking about the Yanks' situation in 2017-18.

Yeah Ron I don't get it either, that's why I posted what I did. No way this guy is worth $18M per & honestly I would have rather seen them go after someone like Chen who I think is a better pitcher. Or if nothing else just tried to resign Leake. Very surprised & disappointed in this signing.

I want to say that maybe he'll do better in the NL nbut the #s don't warrant that, NL (31-42) AL (16-19) Overall...........http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/samarje01.shtml

    Silly question-
If your Giants were playing your Yankees in the WS, which team do you root for?

I'm a Yankee fan first, The Giants however are a very close 2nd. If that doesn't answer your question I'll just cop out by saying, I'd be happy for whoever won.

Okay....so, does that mean you wouldn't mind if the Giants beat the Yanks in the WS?

Exactly what part of "I'd be happy for whoever won" don't you understand?

The white sox had the worst defense in baseball last year, the Giants have one of the best. Could play a factor.

His ERA will go down, but I don't think anyone is expecting him to light the world on fire. This is just the cost of doing business. If aces are worth 30+MM then apparently mid rotation guys are worth ~20MM.

On a side note, here's to my son being left handed! Now to just work on his changeup...

I hear ya loud and clear. Now I totally understand.
Fine and dandy and to each his own.
    This explains alot.

You're one of those rare "Yankee fans" who would not only feel happy for a team (in this case the SF Giants) after they've just beaten the Yanks in a WS.....but also proud about it.
    Got it! It's all good.

Always better to keep your mouth shut & just have others THINK your a moron than to open it up & remove all doubt.

Sadly that shipped has sailed. Congratulations.
